I have written this to help anyone unfamiliar with Reddit, who might like to get in on this.

A crash course in Reddit karma.

Every new account on Reddit has to begin slowly. If you move too fast, you will end up with a useless account because you will be subject to a “shadow ban” which might never be lifted.

Consider your first 2-4 weeks to be training territory where you should not post too much – maybe 2-3 posts a day maximum and leave the odd gap in between, because this will be considered normal user activity. If you try to grow your account too fast, you will get shadow banned. You should also consider browsing around into topics that interest you, subscribe to subreddits, add a couple things to your profile. As all these types of activity are monitored by Reddit and their automated algorithms are always assessing a standard pattern of user behavior.

Note, most subreddits (aka sub forums or user administered categories) will have restrictions that prevent new users from posting. You might post, but your posts will never be seen by anyone else and you will get no upvotes which contribute to karma. However there are *certain* subreddits that do not have such restrictions, such as r/AmItheAsshole. There are other subreddits that start to kick in and allow you after hitting a 2 week + 100 post karma minimum, such as r/worldnews which can be easy to get upvotes on as they reach a wide audience.
