I usually mine on Slush's pool, but that went down this morning, so I jumped over to deepbit, which timed out. Then I registered and set up with BTC Guild, and their servers are failing as of about 10 minutes ago.
What the heck is up in the bitcoin pool world today???/

Mine on a mid-sized pool Deepbit, slush, and btcguild are easy targets. This is a perfect example why too much hash power to a single pool is not a good idea.

just have your miners setup with multiple backup pools configured as failovers. sooner or later your miners will automatically switch over to a pool thats running.

taking 2x longer per block approx. this could be good to help dock a lot of the higher pools and distribute the hashing better.

Will do. I'm using GUI Miner. Is there a better way to do it than the -f60 trick? Seems inelegant and wasteful to have a card splitting resources in 'good times'

It seems like it, at least it's the most plausible explanation if we don't take any conspiracy theories into account.

I'm thinking the same thing. Attempt to spike difficulty down at the last couple hundred blocks before adjustment.

Just shy of 2 hours with no blocks found put that in your variance pipe and smoke it.

I'm really shocked about how many people still mine on deepbit: big fees, no 8-decimal pays, not particular clear interface, and... not DDoS-reluctant...
So, the worst pool has the biggest power. Incredible!

pretty interesting if you consider to perform a 51% attack you start by knocking out as many of the biggest pools you can (that will be about 3) then commence with your hashing might against whats left
