Antminer S7 Support

Hello,

   Today I recived my first miner the Antminer S7 upon reciving it I plugged it in and the green light on the PSU lit up and the machine turned on after about 10-20 seconds it shut off and wont turn on PSU light no longer green

Upon opon opening the PSU (Yes ik this is dangerous I was properly grounded) it appears nothing was blown
This is a mining 1600w psu with no 20+4 pin connector so im not sure how to jump it to see if i need a new PSU
Any help on how to jump or other suggestions would be appreciated

It's hard to say without a little more information.

What type of psu do you have?

Can you describe the circuit you are operating on? 110 or 220 volt?

Can you post some pictures?

You really should have held off on opening up the PSU. With most mining equipment it's best to take your time troubleshooting all options before opening things up.

Opened it because warranty was already void (this miner hasnt been used in ~2 years or so and was originally used with this psu

Probably a voltage issue.  Try running it on 240V if possible.

The PSU may say is 1600W but --most times that applies only when feeding it 208-240VAC. Most of the time when using 110v input the power rating is only 2/3 what the 208 rating is. If there is a rating sticker on it check it.

For reference, an unmodified s7 will pull over 1250w during startup and not much less when running.

Ok thanks I will be installing a 250V outlet tommorow to see if it fixes the problem

Question though; why did it turn on for a brief second if it’s a voltage issue shouldn’t it of not tuned on at all or was the capacitors still partially active ?

NotFuzzy crystallized my thoughts very eloquently.  As to what you're seeing, the controller will use a small amout of power compared to the hash boards.  The brief time it's alive is possibly the time between controller turning on and hash boards powering up.

The first thing an s7 does when you power it on is to apply power to the hashing boards to heat the chips up before the actual hashing starts. So as soon as the controller boots that is what happens, causing it to draw near full power like notfuzzy said.

I had the same problem at the beginning times and it was my Power Cord. I didn't notice that I'm using an AWG 24 (3*0.5mm) Cable of an old 350W PSU. Changed the Power Cord and used an AWG 14(3*1.5mm) Cable and everything was fine.
