A processing power-based monetization platform
Mooniz | Onepager | API doc | Twitter | Telegram | Medium

Hi, I’m Jean, the CEO of Moonify.io; a small team of five, furiously working on laying the foundations of an ambitious idea.
Democratizing cryptocurrencies by proposing to rent their processing power to people whilst they browse a website, play a game or use an app then get rewarded with tokens.
Content editors are paid in return for providing traffic to the Mooniz platform.

The difference between other browser mining services is the user reward. Instead of taking a cut, our commission is directly distributed to users.
70% of the revenue goes to publishers in the form of XMR while 30% goes to users as Mooniz currency.
Indeed browser mining is not really new. But mining is not the thing, mining is just the means by which we start developing our ecosystem and educate people.

Unlike some of our competitors who have resorted to malware, we strongly believe that cryptojacking is a tragic and terribly short-term practice that contributes to exacerbating the narrative about “the dark side of crypto”.
Our miner was developed within an environment of respect and ethics. It’s not hidden from users whatsoever.
They can opt-in/opt-out as they wish whilst maintaining full control of their CPU load.

At Moonify.io (the company behind Mooniz) we aim at forging long-term partnerships as well as building a living community.
The miners and the reward system are just the first building blocks of a larger ecosystem. We’re still in the early phase though.
We’ve been partially funded by private VC. Governmental infrastructure here in France also makes it possible for nascent businesses to get necessary support through project incubation, funding and deferred 0% loans.

An ICO is under discussion but we first saw the need to have a working product, far beyond simple storytelling like many ICOs out there.
It’s not the easiest way to do it, but that’s how we see things. We are always looking for passionate people who could help us out in the future.

The Token:
- The Mooniz Token, (MIZ) will be issued on the Ethereum network as an ERC20 token.
Its purpose is to be used within our ecosystem for buying, selling assets and for accessing professional services.

How can Mooniz interact with each other?
Content editors who decide to get paid with Moony Tokens in order to use our services can also use them to reward their users.

Check out Mooniz.io for more details about our project. We have many updates coming out in the following weeks so feel free to follow us on twitter @moonifyio to stay informed.
If you like our project and you would like to help us promote it, feel free to open an account and use your referral link to earn 5% (XMR) from your affiliates.
Essentially, we’re looking for adoption and visibility.
If you can provide any other kind of support or services please reply to this post with a very brief description of what you can offer or PM me.

We’re looking forward to developing our ecosystem with you.

Sounds pretty fair
Out of curiosity, which token are you giving away to your users?
I can offer Greek translation if you're interested.
Hope you the best for your project

Cool idea. Will certainly give it a shot. Can you give us a better idea of what types of digital content the tokens will be used for in the future?

Sure, bitMoony can be redeemed for games on http://loot.game our first showcase. We have more partners coming in september even though a majority of them are from the gaming space.

This is a very short update to announce some very exciting news to website owners!

Other browser mining services normally take a cut of mining revenues produced by their users.
Website owners keep the remaining 70% in the form of XMR, which is unchanged compared to other models.

We have decided to give the remaining 30% directly to users! This will be in the form of bitMoony Tokens that is redeemable for games at the moment.
A list of our partners is available on the bitMoony website and we will update this with new partners coming in. One of the first places your users will be able to use bitMoony is at Loot.game.

We are sure that this is a step in the right direction as we believe that to get more adoption, in-browser mining solutions as monetization tools, have to offer something new to users.

Thanks for asking
bitMoony has all the characteristics of a stable coin.
But instead of being backed by fiat currency, it is backed by users’ CPUs that mine XMR and ETN within our network.
which means it doesn't carry any speculative value.
may I suggest to read this post https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4831980 for a better understanding of the token utility and the project behind it?

Allow me to carefully rephrase my question. As I understand it, the token price rises and falls proportionately to the mined revenue, would the token price not be speculatively dependant on the amount and actual price of mined XMR and ETN as well as the number of dedicated users and their CPU's at any given time? Also how would you go about gaining the trust of new users other than offering users a reward despite the damaged reputation of "browser hive mining" and the widespread use of miner blocking extensions / apps? How will this cpu drain affect user experience?

Thank you for clarifying

As I understand it, the token price rises and falls proportionately to the mined revenue
No it’s a stable coin, his value stays always the same. But as it is backed by a volatile underlying, his fluctuation is carried over the amount you earn when you mine it.

as well as the number of dedicated users and their CPU's at any given time?
No this mechanics is simply handled by the proof of work consensus of XMR/ETN the more miners, the more difficulty applies.

Also how would you go about gaining the trust of new users other than offering users a reward despite the damaged reputation of "browser hive mining"
Indeed this is the tricky part, so many cryptojacking attacks lately mining became de facto a bad practice. This is exactly the reason why Moonify has been created. To show the other side of this technology and dude we’ve been really hard at work to make a respectful miner.
The most important thing is, we don’t hide anything. At the top of that we fight against people trying to trick the system by hiding the information message.

https://i.imgur.com/Txn7tCR.png

Please read our article here, we explain all that has been made so far to show what a respectful miner looks like : https://medium.com/moonify/moonify-a-respectful-browser-miner-716234105d3e

How will this cpu drain affect user experience
We have maxed the cpu usage to 50% of the threads to avoid any overheating, that said we can’t know how many processes are already running on the host computer.

Hope that helps

We have written and rewritten this post so many times. Everytime we were about to post it we told ourselves that it was too early, that it was missing this and that, and that our project wasn’t mature enough to post here.
In actual fact, in a startup, things move so quickly that something you write one day quickly becomes obsolete a few days later.
This, coupled with the fact that we’re evolving in one of the most dynamic sectors at the moment has a real multiplier effect. In any case, we need to start somewhere!

I’m Jean, the CEO of Moonify; a small team of five, furiously working on laying the foundations of an ambitious idea.
Democratizing cryptocurrencies by proposing mining to people whilst they browse a website, play a game or use an app then get rewarded with tokens.

Browser or in-app mining, nothing really new here then huh ?
Right, but mining is not really the thing, mining is just the means by which we penetrate a new market and educate people.
The big thing is THE USER REWARD. We will develop this topic in our official ANN.

Hey guys! We have a project that we’ve been working on for a while now and we’re launching part of it today.

https://loot.game is a website that enables users to earn games simply by “being there”. Well, visitors pay with their CPU power (consent is required first) through an in-browser JS miner and accumulate bitMoony tokens that they can then redeem for games.

Please check our announcement here https://medium.com/moonify/we-just-launched-loot-game-448ca0c96181

We would love to get your feedback

There's at least two segments of the online industry you should really try and talk to: the news/press/newspaper one and the crypto faucet industry. I won't go too much into why but it looks like you've put quite enough thought into building a "respectable" browser mining script so this might make sense to you.

The traditional media/newspaper is dying. Same goes for faucets. Traditionally, both are supported by ads. People use adblocks and this has really cut into their revenues. But both sites can still remain very popular, as people still want their services. Newbies always want faucets and people always want to read the news.

We've seen even wikipedia and other news sites now fill up their pages with all sorts of prompts begging people to donate or to switch off ad blocker. Simpler would be to ask them to allow their computers to mine crypto for them for as long as they're using their site. Effectively, they're still paying for the service, paying for the time they spend, but without having to go through the hassle of either watching ads or making Paypal donations.

Most people wouldn't want to sign up to a full blown Moonify account to collect more tokens though - so maybe work something out where they just switch on and off as they visit these sites, with full consent. I wager these faucet and news sites would like this concept instead.

Hi buwaytress,

Very interesting response - thanks for your insight! Our business development team is working on convincing industries like the press to try out or solution but it is not simple. For the moment, the expected return is lower than revenue generated through ads.

Concerning ad blocking, I completely agree too, instead of asking visitors to turn them off have webmasters put up paywalls, it is simpler to ask for small donations via web browsing. The readers get content and site owners can get income.

About a 'full blown' account. You can opt-in/out from websites that have Moonify installed. As you can see this gives users the ability to choose not only how much CPU power is shared but to whom. This is in-line with our whole respectful philosphy:

Regarding faucets what would be the best method to reach out to them in your opinion ?

I'm not surprised if revenue from browser mining is still much lower than direct advertising, but I think there is a great trade off that website owners don't realise when they simply stop offering ads. They already lose out to adblocked users so why not ask them to contribute hashpower even if for a minute or two? I already do so for a couple of services and I don't feel anything at all.

Regarding faucets, spend some time to learn who the big ones are. A few already have started using for xmr (moonbitco comes to mind) but check out forum section on micro earnings to see how that industry is struggling.

Don't you think my anti-virus should show me a warning before letting me access a website that has control over my CPU? You said I would be asked for consent before accessing my CPU power. Well, you didn't. I was greeted by some game modal that doesn't directly asks if it's okay for you to use my computer power.

Well, you didn't. I was greeted by some game modal that doesn't directly asks if it's okay for you to use my computer power.

When you land on loot.game your CPU is not used until you click on the start button. Your consent is the fact that you have to make an action in order to start collecting. As soon as you clicked the start button a clear message appears in the bottom left on the site :

https://i.imgur.com/R7TRTD2.jpg

You have full control over your CPU. We don't control it neither, it's the opposite, we provide you with all the necessary tools to control it by yourself.
The modal settings window allows you to :
- Start/stop collecting
- setup real time speed
- setup max speed allow you to limit the power you grant to websites using our platform
- independent opt-in/opt-out (by site basis)

Regarding the anti-virus it depends which one you're using. For instance Kaspersky is not seeing our miner as malware (https://twitter.com/Moonifyio/status/1015119758440697856)
Another important thing to say is, our miner is never using more than half of your cpu threads.

That has been said I really appreciate your feedback, it's the most valuable thing for us to improve.
If it has not been clear enough for you it means that we can do better and we will.

We really hope to participate to a shift about the narrative around browser mining.
Thank you again.

Actually a good point to make for yourselves is to get your app validated and verified as soon as possible and then start getting yourselves whitelisted on all these antivirus. I know people think it's pointless to do that as every update will probably just get yourself back on their flags. While at this, I have noticed 2 other providers of this service advertising quite heavily across the media - not sure if coincidence or if these just made themselves more prominent because of this thread playing on my consciousness.

Wonder if you feel making your code open source would put you on an edge over other competition (while of course making it easier to whitelist on all those malware detecting software.
