Asked on Alternate Currencies sub-forum, as I'm planning to mine Litecoin, but I imagine the answer is pretty much the same as Bitcoin.

You would rather want to set up an automatic backup pool on a mining program like cgminer.  That way you actually have a chance of making money.

cgminer doesnt work on litecoin.
the current minerd does not resume if connection is lost for more than 30sec and has no option i see to set backup pools Smiley
