It only means that you received a message.

Every time that other members will contact you through message, you will be notified through email.

I'm worried about the link given to you by that person, it's a phishing link so don't ever click it.

You received a message from someone from this forum, check your message box just right before login...  You will see "My messages".. Click on it and read and meanwhile that link to the giveaway looks suspicious.  Don't enter your mnemonics or private keys.

Bitcointalk sends you an email when you receive a PM (private message from another user). If you dont want email notifications, you can disable this in settings.

The message itself looks like spam. The main problem is that the url pretends to be from the ethereum foundation. You can tell that it isnt the real ethereum foundation, because the official ethereum website is https://www.ethereum.org/. The fake URL also uses a free domian name ".cf" and the name is broken into subdomains - the base domain name is mfoundation.cf. If the real ethereum foundation would make a giveaway, it would be visible in the real website ethereum.org.

I checked the link (I use Linux therefore viruses are rare) and it is a classic scam:
Quote from: Scam website
To participate, just send 0.2 ETH to the address below and get 2 to 20 ETH back

This website simply takes victims 0.2 ETH payment and never sends the promised 2-20 ETH.

To participate in a legit giveaway, you never need to send money first or enter private keys. At most you would need to enter your crypto address (not private key), email address or bitcointalk username, but you will never be asked to pay.

This is a normal mate. You have received a message from someone in the bitcointalk form. It's like an email notification. But that your message looks like that guy was tried to steal your private keys or something. In my opinion, is don't put your private keys to anywhere.

The link is clickable, but if it asks you to provide any private information after entering it, then you should reject it because it may be a phishing site!

That's nothing to worry if you won't click any link that might be a phishing site that will ask your personal information about cryptocurrency or cryptocurrency related topics. Base on the image you provide that message was sent by Fourge on bitcointalk forum meaning that's not from the bitcointalk forum admin or associate itself but that was sent to you by a member from the bitcointalk forum. If that email came from bitcointalk forum then the message would be like this - You have just been sent a personal message by Bitcoin Forum on Bitcoin Forum and not You have just been sent a personal message by Fourge on Bitcoin Forum. Seen the difference between the TWO? First, sent by Bitcoin Forum and the Second one is sent by Fourge.

I really appreciate your efforts of taking a screenshot and posting it here in order to ask about it. I know some fools who take the decision without any second thought and then they regret it.

This is none other than a famous old scam taking under the name of giveaway programme. Well, just apply the simple logic, if they really want to host a 'giveaway' then why they are 'taking' the money from you? You got it! They this is not a giveaway but the 'takeaway' attempt and you have survived it without any loss.

Just treat you BCT inbox the same as your mail, or like any other messaging system. Be suspicious towards every message that wants you to follow a link.
Especially unsolicited messages.

I thought it was a personal link created to contact the friends on the list. However, you should be careful with the strange links, you probably should not click avoid the scam case. You can refer to some of the comments below.

It's not safe to trust and click in link in your message, because it was sent by forum member, it was not sent by admin. Be careful because it can be scam link and stole your coin.

It seems like that only low ranking members have received this private message as they are the obvious prey for this types of scam. Obviously this man named Fourge is using the name of yahoo62278 in order to join the scam link he is showing. This is a fraud and I advise that all members should avoid this email. Also the email you receive about a private message is also notified in your Bitcointalk account under the "My Messages" section which if you have a new mail it will have "[1]" beside the "My Messages" as a means of notifying you that you received a pm in the forum.

It is sent when you receive a message in the forum, also if he is a newbie who send the message there is a warning about that.
