Hackers Use 200,000 Unprotected Brazilian Routers to Mine Cryptos, Security Researchers Reveals

Several hackers are using a network of unprotected routers to circulate cryptocurrency-mining malware to users without any suspicion, security experts and researchers have revealed.

Anonymous cybercriminals are using a fragment in over 170,000 routers made by MikroTik to execute scripts on the computers of unaware victims to mine Cryptos for the hacker, according to Simon Kenin, a TrustWave researcher.

Yikes! It is always something isn't it. News like this is bad, but to be expected. Crypto is really changing the way we view the world. I would have never thought something like Bitcoin could ever exist. The blockchain truly is innovation at its finest. Do you think the creator knew it would become this big?

Just read it up this news recently about MikroTik router. This isnt really new yet these things are vulnerable to attacks and can really be utilize by hackers or anything which can potentially used up to mine crypto or any other purpose just to make money specially if it isnt secured and this is the thing we do expect to happen. This would be an eye opener for those companies which they should tighten security. Imagine 200,000 routers, for how long they have been doing mining with these numbers.

I do not know how the attacks take place, but based on what mentioned here, the way is to execute scripts to the browser. Do you think that disable Javascript would eliminate such attacks?

Anonymous cybercriminals are using a fragment in over 170,000 routers made by MikroTik to execute scripts on the computers of unaware victims to mine Cryptos for the hacker, according to Simon Kenin, a TrustWave researcher.

The statistics appear to be inaccurate as the article spoke of some numbers "200,000 & 170,000".
It was also not confirmed that all these devices already used for currency mining.
