I think it will take a long time still before big chains will even think about accepting Bitcoin payments - Bitcoin is still too volatile for that and with unpredictable fees.

It's mixed news. The plus side is that someone is clearly accepting the bitcoins. They aren't just vanishing into thin air. And it will still give you another way to spend your bitcoins in the real world.
The negative side is that, once again, there's just far too much hype and expectation because people place more emphasis than they should on the fiat price of their holdings. The speculators just get their hopes up about every little thing and then end up disappointed when the reality isn't quite what they thought it was. People need to temper their expectations. Rein it in a bit. Stop jumping at every sensationalist media headline as a sign of "impending moon". It's just not realistic. OR, better yet, focus on the real benefits instead of the price.
One of the main reasons these companies aren't accepting bitcoins directly is because of the volatility, but all the speculators out there hyping things out of all proportion are contributing to that volatility. If you're doing that, you only have yourselves to blame. Stop putting all the emphasis on the price. This is not a get-rich-quick scheme, so stop treating it like one and maybe the rest of the world will start doing the same. The "value" is not the fiat number ascribed to BTC. The value is in the self-determination, privacy and freedom granted to you by using it. The value is the total absence of an endless flow of IOUs being printed out of nothing. The value is in the neutrality, transparency and openness of the network. This is what you should care about. Then, perhaps others will start to see it that way.

A spokesperson for the multinational coffee chain clarified in comments to Motherboard that in fact “customers will not be able to pay for Frappuccinos with bitcoin,” but rather the company is part of a new venture creating a platform, Bakkt, to “convert digital assets like Bitcoin into U.S. dollars, which can be used at Starbucks,”
I don't get it, they are going to be accepting bitcoin, who cares what they do with it and what they receive. it is the same as when you go to a merchant now and pay them with bitcoin through Bitpay. you pay bitcoin, they accept bitcoin but they receive fiat. unless I am misreading this, I'd say this is not a bad thing. it creates yet another use case in real world for bitcoin and it will make things even easier for merchants to accept bitcoin with no worries about its price and other risks while they increase their revenue.

Can we said that this is another reason for bitcoin price to go up? We are not going to have much good price by one mall adopting cryptocurrencies but when there is a mass adoptions price will increase.

As fun as that sounds, it might take a long while before big chains start accepting bitcoins as payments. But when it does, we all can expect for other big food chains and hopefully other business establishments to follow suit.

So they're not accepting Bitcoin, but will be launching/offering a platform for trading and conversion of Bitcoin? And won't a trusted custodian like a bank maybe increase trust but erode what the system is based on? Sorry I'm new here. Any clarification will be much appreciated.

It's still a disadvantage if they accept bitcoin, There will be a lot of opposition if it is accepted, but i think it would be accepted when btc more popular maybe in two years from now.

At first I thought starbucks would pay in bitcoin. However, it is unlikely at the moment, because the bitcoin transfer speed is slow and the transfer cost is high, so it is not suitable for payment at present. I expect the lightning network can change all this.

Strictly speaking, it will, in a sense. Bitcoin was meant as a peer-to-peer electronic cash system. Satoshi's white paper says one of the reasons why Bitcoin might be necessary was to eliminate the need for third party trust, specifically singling out payment processors. Using a third party payment processor for Bitcoin payments obviously goes against that, no matter which way you look at it. On the other hand, at the end of the day, using it with a payment processor is still a choice. It doesn't diminish Bitcoin's functionality as a peer-to-peer electronic cash system as it could still be used freely that way. Bitpay et al. exist now and are very popular, but Bitcoin is still Bitcoin. We still get to take care of our own money and our transactions are still immutable.

That's right! Bitcoin is currently difficult to become a payment method. First, because of price uncertainty, second, it is slow to transfer. Third, most countries currently ban digital currency, such as China.

I'm sure if bitcoin has stable prices, maybe in the future large companies like Starbuck can accept bitcoin payments. this happens because there is a positive side of bitcoin that is easy to use for payment only the price cannot be stable.

Starbucks is a well known company across countries. Bitcoin has gain popularity this past few years, but clearly it still has a lot of issues.
One thing I see is if starbuck also charge us the transaction fees. It will cost more of course but surely starbucks' coffee prices won't adjust just to accomodate few crypto users. For now at least.

Well I can't buy my coffee with bitcoins there what a shame lol, it's okay considering they're star bucks expecting them to accept bitcoins was my bad to, but then I do hope someday they do accept it but it'll not be without its share of complications it'll be interesting to see if going ahead they choose to accept it or no plus if they do which countries will they allow.

If this will happen soon in our country, that would be great! Many people here love's coffee from starbucks! Another thing, I'm really looking forward for btc to be accepted here in our country. Most people here usually think of BTC as some sort of pyramid or ponzi scams. They just lack the knowledge about it that's why they think of it that way.

Good news but bitcoin does not seems recovering in the market. So I suggest all to hold your coins for few months. If you find good profit and then you can sell or invest on any project. If you bitcoin and thinking to exchange it for altcoins also do not do that mate. Now we can have coffee with paying on bitcoin. Hopefully wanna see more companies and government should accept bitcoins.

I read this news and was excited as well. But then just thought that crypto and Bitcoin itself has too much controversy in people's minds so I think that a huge company like Starbucks wouldn't risk its reputation in order to use 'a disputable paying method'.
