Dogecoin low hash in cgminer

Maybe I've missed something but, when I first began mining I mined bitcoin in cgminer, I quickly realized
At the speed of 16 mhs I wasn't goings to get anywhere. So I started mining dogecoin in cgminer
And I'm haven't gotten past a 18 khs speed, why the dramatic difference?

Lowering your Thread Concurrency may do the trick. I discovered on my own that raising the value too high drops my hashing performance by a factor of 200%.
