Now that I try to view it, the thread has disappeared. Can anybody see it or do I just assume it's been randomly deleted? Why though I don't know...

Usually topics are not randomly deleted. If it was a spam megathread, someone has reported it and it has been deleted by the mods.
If you had a post in that thread and you haven't got any notification in your 'My messages' inbox, than a moderator has deleted the whole topic.

Seems to be something related to the fact that there was an existing ANN running for SocialCoin. This doesn't make complete sense as the thread to which I'm referring was relating to an entirely new and separate project.

Anyway, it is what it is now I guess, thanks anyway all.
