No joke, less than 5 minutes ago I received this email:

Yes they are pleased to accept new greater fools to the MtGox Ponzi scheme, new client deposits are needed to pay the withdrawals for old clients.

I applied in early January. It took over a month for them to verify me. But, they did a couple weeks ago. Luckily I did not get around to funding the account before all the recent problems started.

Yeah they verified me over the weekend after waiting for over 6 weeks.
I happily sent them $1,000,000 in monopoly money as that seems to be about all they can pay people with.

I guess with the imminent demise of the company there are no more new accounts being created. The guy whose job it is to verify accounts could finally catch up with his backlog.

I never actually had anything in there. I think I created the account around the first of January.

Got the same message the day the S$#t hit the fan with them. Luckily nothing there for the crash.

What an absolute embarrassment mtgox has become, this just puts the icing on the shit cake.

It's really sad to think that new people in the Bitcoin community who were not following this (or other forums) and therefore weren't aware of the problems and fraudulent behaviour by MtGox and continued to deposit money with them. Sad

I find it especially disturbing that MtGox was listed as a recommended exchange (#1 I think!?) on Bitcoin.org for so long, even after we all realised that they may be in trouble... Angry

I feel for all those new Bitcoin users who were unaware of the importance of following the forums and trusted the recommendations on Bitcoin.org.

Let's hope it doesn't put them off Bitcoin for good...
