Saw all the discussion about bitcoin in the non-newbie forum. I've been following bitcoin for about 5-6months and just felt a need to chime in. I'm not sure if bitcoin itself is the answer, or if it's completely workable by everyday non-techie users. But the idea is what excites people. A way to exchange and store a currency that you can transfer to who you want, how you want is incredibly appealing to a lot of people.

There's also this elite and self-defeating attitude on this forum, that is thus disseminated through the entire bitcoinsphere. My opinion is that this is exactly what keeps interested people from sticking it out, learning the basics and chipping in how and where they can. If you read through the thread about occupy wall street and BTC there isn't much relevant info on how to give the heads up about it. Instead its bickering about the big issues, about the movement itself and even worldview arguments. Shouldn't we be more concerned with making it work? If so many people think BTC is crap, why do they post here? This lack of confidence is warranted bc its new, but it's like the excitement for ideas is dead to a lot of people who know about it.

It obviously needs to be easier, more accessible and secure enough not to have your coins stolen. These are all things that need to be hashed out. Be upfront about where it stands, it needs people's help.

But I hope we can include all the things that make BTC work, build up the ideas that make it appealing and exciting. Lose the things that don't. Work on the problems, fix them and an foster an emergent quality that makes it transcend into something new.

I see a lot of talk about how the protesters are stupid socialists or whatever name-calling....well we could use all the help and awareness we can get. That's the attitude that makes people who might try bitcoin, read the forums, get smarted off to about not understanding the block chain and give up. We should spread the idea...so many have never even heard of such a thing, but love the notion when they hear about it. Doesn't mean they will work all the bugs themselves; but I think it's at least fertile ground to get people on board with the idea.

I think occupy wallstreet protesters would be smart to embrace bitcoins. Great marketing opportunity when you have a bunch of people fed up with banks.
