I have found two services that sold Bitcoins through Google Checkout. One was http://accesscoin.com and I have forgotten the other. From what I can tell, they are now offline.

Is it still viable to sell Bitcoins through Google Checkout? I am building a financial service for an in-game economy and this payment method would be perfect for new users of Bitcoin.

This is a great idea! Since you're a new member and have been properly whitelisted, I can't wait to try out your new financial service. Can I be one of the first to sign up?
I'll contact you personally.

According to Google, they do allow for virtual currencies to be purchased with Checkout. Though I'm not sure if they consider Bitcoin to fall into this category.

I loaned this individual 100 BTC and was paid back on time. I've not heard any complaints from any buyers, either.

Was that one of those microfinance loans?

I'm not sure what you mean. I spoke with him at length on IRC, and we conducted it using a GPG signed "contract".

The reason I posted to the community that you're clean is because you deleted your FB account. http://dont-tread-on.me/delete-facebook/comment-page-1/#comment-6546 All outstanding members here must do that in order to start a Bitcoin business, especially a financial related one. I'm not sure if you've already registered a domain name, but when you do, make sure to use a Wyoming address for tax purposes. Your only other two choices are Nevada or Delaware.

What the hell are you on? He hasn't mentioned anything about "financial services". The purpose of this thread was to find out where he can direct people to buy Bitcoins with Google Checkout.

My name is Ragnar and I am building an online service that allows users to trade game-based commodities for Bitcoins. Once I have access to the main forums, I can begin to share my service with the community.

Thank you.

It would be pretty silly to leave a forum and come back with an account that made it obvious you were the same person as before, leave this guy alone.  Atlas is gone for good.

Unless of course you were completely full of yourself and thought you were a genius.

Or if you had very low respect for the intelligence level of the people you are planning to communicate with.

Thank you.

In typical Atlas style, his service is being advertised without existing yet, and he feels that even though it's just an idea, its "value" is worth "sharing" with us. Aaaaaand then he abandons it barely 19 minutes later.

Since the terms of him being whitelisted were to "share" his service, can we throw him back in the newbie jail for lying?

Boy, I was only kidding about Atlas and Ragnar being the same person, Matthew, but I see your point. The only way I can disprove your theory, though, is by stating that Ragnar can't be Atlas because this thread is still open.  Wink

I don't see any issue with proposing or announcing an idea or work in progress as long as they aren't trying to solicit donations or investments.  Sounded to me like he wanted to share his progress and gather input for his project in progress.  I'm bringing absolutely nothing to the table and I got whitelisted too.

You got whitelisted because you knew the secret Bitcoin handshake.

I'd like access to the forums, but to be honest this one post is about all the effort I'm willing to put in for it. I've lurked a bit and rarely find a reason to reply, when I do I'm blocked and have no interest in putting in extra fluff effort in the newbie section just to use an internet forums.

Thanks!

@Ragnar: The following video will get you up to speed as to why security is so tight around here. Make sure to watch the whole video, not skipping to only the good parts for you might miss something like, I don't know, maybe where to find out more about the secret Bitcoin handshake. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThNpfl4wQww

Atlas leaves, and a dead man appears: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ragnar_Redbeard

It would make sense if it were Atlas considering I brought him in to our group that includes AccessCoin's owner and DialCoin's team and we discussed ideas daily right in front of him.

I wish I could say I felt threatened.  Undecided

On a side note, considering he never contributed anything and merely watched us get real work done, I'd say we were of more "value" to him than he was to us.

This is typical of today's youth. No patience. If you're gonna "fake it" you gotta have the tenacity to "make it."

Ya right... It looked to me like that self-appointed bitcoin private detective jumped all over him with, what he admits, were satirical statements
and accusations of him being Atlas and seeming put-downs based on his nickname etc..  I do see some well wishes but no questions before all that
about his plans and ideas, but a lot of seeming assumptions.

Would it hurt to start with an explanation of why people are cautious ( if not downright fearful ) of new ventures based on past scams etc.?

I wonder if some of the people here work for the dept. of homeland security.

i.e.
Assume all Muslims are terrorists,
Assume all Hispanics ( or "beaners" as I saw one idiot refer to them elsewhere on this forum ) are illegal aliens,
Assume all newbies are scammers,
until proven otherwise,
and if they leave then it is a confirmation of the fears and a justification for the shabby and disrespectful behavior.

Great idea, go make a thread about scams in the newbie forums and request a sticky for it. Maybe call it "Trust No One". Anyone whitelisted should be assumed to know the rules already.

Heh.  That was me.  'beaner' is a word which rhymes somewhat with 'border'.  It was a semi-inside joke which, unsurprisingly, went right over your head.  The intended recipient, who had had some goings around with someone who seemed to care significantly about...er.... immigration issues, seemed to have gotten.

I apologize if I considered you a racist when what you were actually doing was speaking out against that type of thing.

This thread is perhaps a good example of how satire(sarcasm etc.) isn't always obvious on forums like this, especially
to new people who are not familiar with the dynamics existing among long time members.

Lol.  That wasn't me. I was channeling David Icke.   Wink

It was making fun of the kind of conspiracy stuff which Alex Jones is famous for.  It was not an attack on
any particular individual, let alone a newbie to the forum, but on taking certain speculations and fears to
unwarranted extremes, beyond the evidence (hmm... like some people on this forum perhaps).
Call me a hypocrite if you want.  Does that excuse your behavior towards Ragnar?

Assume all Hispanics ( or "beaners" as I saw one idiot refer to them elsewhere on this forum ) are illegal aliens,

Around here (Michigan) we have a chain of nice coffee houses that was called "Beaners". It is kinda like Starbucks, but better. Just a couple years ago they changed their name to "Bigbys", keeping the big B they had on the sign. I liked the old name better.

When I was a kid we used to have 'Sambo's pancake house or something.  There was a set of tiles around the ceiling with the story of 'Little Black Sambo' and how he ran around some lions so fast he made a ring of butter.  Something like that.  The chain changed their name to something else.  Dunno if they were outside the Pacific Northwest or not.

I certainly don't long for the good old days, and I think it is good taste to re-name an unfortunately named establishments, but the politically correct stuff is all kinds of amusing to poke fun at.  I personally would patronize a 'honkies' or 'crackers' or 'Thai-food-Mary's or order a 'mad cow burger' without hesitation because I find the stuff wildly funny.  I probably would avoid something that had name which was derogatory to minorities (unless I was in that minority) just in case the owners actually meant it.  Similarly, I avoid buying things which I know the owners are either racist, or worse in my opinion, actively exploit people.  I pay attention to this, at least slightly, when buying shoes for instance.

---

Actually I just read up on Sambo's on Wikipedia.  They change Little Black Sambo from an African to an Indian (India Indian that is...benefits by clarification to Northwestern US natives of a certain age as 'Indian' is how we referred to Native Americans who actually did exist in the population.)  Nice try.  It didn't work...they apparently didn't anticipate the influx of people from the Indian subcontinent and more or less folded.  The building we mostly went to did change to something else.  Maybe Denny's.

  Just as 'RatherGood', imho...

If you're not excited by the idea of being an early adopter 'now', then you should come back in three or four years and either tell us "Told you it'd never work!" or join what should, by then, be a much more stable and easier-to-use system.

What is the average age on this forum?

I once read that it's 21.4 years, which isn't to bad.

Same as you. Late high schoolish.
I don't know what gave you that impression. I finished my time long ago.

I believe its 50 going on 13 for most of us. Been around the block so many times we are going back in time as well...   Wink

If you're not excited by the idea of being an early adopter 'now', then you should come back in three or four years and either tell us "Told you it'd never work!" or join what should, by then, be a much more stable and easier-to-use system.

What specifically are you working on?

What are your thoughts on slaves, a person's value to society, and rough sex?
Interesting.

I don't prefer slavery but coercion is inevitable. I accept it as human nature. As for value: I value a lot of people. I don't know what else to say to that. As for sex, it gets boring after awhile.

I'll give you a backstory:

A couple years back I began to get severe arithritis in my hip and it limited what I usually did. My grandson let me sit in on his gaming and I gradually began to play myself; eventually I got myself setup with a PC. I used to be a horse trader back in the day and I like how in Team Fortress 2 you can trade the items and commodities you earn.

I am about to add some technologies I've been experimenting with to the TF2 trading system and make things a little easier for people who make money with this gig, through Bitcoins.

In the end, I'm glad I'm seeing the world change from the inside-out and that I'm now able to do my part.

Sex was boring for me too, until I watched this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RQ-S0_h29k and got one of these:

I like to be private. However, I will say I enjoyed my recent trip to Illinois. That's a grand state you live in.

It is he who is known as I am.  Or just Atlas.  He had a huge SomethingAwful following https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=48257.0
