Hi All,

I'm building a mining rig and did all the setup and loaded windows 10 to my SSD (after replacing the laptop hdd with Ssd and installing windows). But when connected all my cables to the respective ports and started the rig, the bios is loaded during the first start. I set my DVD drive in Boot order as priority 1, then set SSD as priority 2. Now when I start the rig it gets stuck with a blank screen and the windows 10 is not loaded from the SSD, it's just a black screen in the monitor. (Connected the HDMI from main GPU to monitor)

I remove the SSD and tried to use in laptop and could load the windows 10 successfully.

Here few details of all peripherals i'm using in the Rig.

Mother board - TB 250 BTC Pro

CPU - Celeron 3930

PSU - EVGA 850 W GQ

GPU - Two RX580 (One is XFX made and another one ASUS made)

SSD - 256GB

Ram - 8GB DDR4

DVD drive

Can some one has a similar experience and know why the system is not booting ?

what makes you think you can install windows 10 on the laptop and just move it to another computer.

Install windows on the mining rig.

Or, if you were smart, you would install linux because windows is shit for mining.

Sounds to me like a bios issue...check to make sure you you have the appropriate settings

Why a DVD drive?

Ive had issues like this also, not sure why, but i found that a different hard drive worked and it booted and installed the windows.
I had inistial issues with windows 7 and then when i tried windows 10 it seemed to work, BUT only with a newer type Sata drive OR SSD, very very weird issue.
Latest BIOS and also PSU has about 200 Watts to spare, so i dont get it.

Few things to try

First try and plug a monitor into each GPU and also try the onboard video card. Sometimes if there is nothing plugged in, you might not get a POST. I had one motherboard do this.

If you still get this issue try and switch which is the main display from Onboard to PCIe or vice versa and see if it works.

If either of these don't work, then you probably need to disconnect the GPUs and re-install everything from scratch.

I have this mobo too.

To get into the bios I have to connect to onboard VGA.

And either VGA or PCI to get into windows, and it takes a few for the windows loading screen to come up, be patient.
Basically when my GPU fans quit spinning is when Windows is about to come up onscreen.

This board is temperamental I still haven't mastered it.

When it's running I don't mess with it.

Dude, he just probably doing test if SSD will work as intended

and it worked fine on his lappie

@OP

try not to use an external GPU for the meantime, resolve the booting of OS first

if all is well, then add/install GPU's and install drivers respectively

Hi All,

Thanks much for all your inputs. Starts working after resetting the motherboard to defaults and then removing the GPU riser connection from main PCI slot to other one.
I also moved the GPU HDMI cable connection to monitor, to DVI-D port and monitor.

When restarted all started working as expected and windows loaded from SSD perfectly.

Now this is my first mining rig with two GPU cards.
I still have few more questions. I'm not sure to create new topics or post it here itself.
If you feel not like replying just say start a new topic.

1. Which is best mining software needed in windows 10 for mining ETH? I know its going to be POS soon, may be I'll mine until then.
2. I have two RX580 but from different manufacturers. Does that matter? Do I need to install gpu drivers for both the GPU's?
3. Which Wallets are you guys using to receive the mined coins rewards? Suggest something safe and secure. I have in mind is Jaxx and Trust or Myether wallet.
4. Suggest some good Altcoins that could be mined using RX580 graphics cards.

Thanks

I just want to comment on the windows you use. I think if only for mining, you don't need to force using certain windows, because as long as the software and hardware you use are compatible and compatible, it won't be a problem. It also does not affect how much hashrate will be generated, right?

the best depends on users taste, hashrates are not a big differences, some prefer a low fee or free, some prefer for a user friendly miners

no, brand doesn't matter, what matter is the model and memory types, Samsung, hynix, Elpidas for modding

I use mew for longer Hodl, and respectable coin exchange wallet for fiat conversion to pay cost

The best coins to mine with those kind of Gpu-s you have are Ethash and CryptonightV7 algorithms. These are the most profitable coins to be mined with the graphic cards you have. As for the software I think that most people generally use Claymore dual miner latest version to mine and I think this is no exception even to people here in the forum.

Checking whattomine as already suggested is a good thing to do if you are not happy with Ethash and CryptonightV7 algorithms.
