Isn't that the point of cold storage so that a problem or compromise with the hot wallet won't destroy the business? Then, there's the rumor that Mt.gox purchased gox.com.... if you just lost 700k bitcoins, would your strategy be to spend six figures on a domain name?!? It sounds like Mark Karpeles is the new Bernie Madoff.

I feel bad for the people who lost their livelihood with Gox and have to watch this unfold.

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

Bitcoin exchanges are literally THAT profitable that they want to just start back up just like that.  The fact that they had a leak/exploit to their cold storage says that they don't understand the definition of cold storage.  It is very sad.  It's possible someone on the inside of MtGox was responsible for leaking the cold storage wallets?
