Dear Admin and Mods

I lost my first account in Dec 16, 2017,
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=370131

Now i have to use this account but i have never felt happy each time visit the forum with a stranger username.
I know to be lost account is my responsibility. all the bitcointalk categories are too large and i missed to the topic to sign a message. However there are many other ways to verify account owner (like email registration, bitcoin or ethereum address that posted in forum, etc  )
https://s15.postimg.cc/qqw53j6u3/btct.gif

I already opened  my first topic with this account to ask for recovering my old account but no response ( i made a search and it was deleted). I know i am not a well-known member on Bitcointalk and of course my topic would not be paid attention to.
I do know bitcointalk policies were created to make a good and fair environment  for crypto community and Moderators & Staff are so busy too, But user's activities should be regarded as seriously as their contends and topic.

I love the comment of a well-known member here
There are far too many compromised accounts to think that this is coming from the users themselves, either because they have a weak password, or use the same password on multiple sites. The rate is too high.

While the user receives the email, instead to insert a link to lock the account, shouldn't there a link to recover the account too?
I DO agree with him. Why do all of account losers receive a link to lock their accounts instead of a link to recover their accounts?
I joined Bitcointalk since 2014 and that account name is really meaning to me, it includes my name and my wife name. that is the reason i feel not happy with the name i am using now. IF Possible, Could you (Mods & Forum Staff) help me to recover my old account? I will provide all proofs to approve i'm the owner and creator.

Moreover, if there are alot of unused accounts, locked accounts ( I dont mean spamming accounts or accounts that are locked because breaking the policies), the forum is day by day lost a huge resources. Imagine 10 years or 20 years later new members will be hard to choose a good username.
And if an account is easy to steal/hack like that, illegal activities are happening in the forum or other forums ( selling illegal accounts, buying hacked account etc )

In addition, Lots of members here, i know, are trying to build their reputation and if one bad day their accounts are hacked, all their work, time and effort are poured into the river. for well-known members as i mentioned above are easy to take accounts back but they will lose time and sometimes receive negative trusts.  I believe these are not our expectations.

in my short-sighted opinion, to be lost account is not all user responsibilities while the forum security is not strong enough, i join many other forums but most of them do not allow members changing email easily like that (without confirmation of old email)

Finally, Please help me to recover my old account.

Thanks for your time and consideration!

It is possible. Just follow this thread: Recovering hacked accounts or accounts with lost passwords

That's why you should have a staked address, which can be used to follow the steps on the thread I linked above and recover the account. Also, in the near future theymos will release a system that helps staking an address and easily proving that you own that account.

in my short-sighted opinion, to be lost account is not all user responsibilities while the forum security is not strong enough, i join many other forums but most of them do not allow members changing email easily like that (without confirmation of old email)
Ofc it is. If you use a strong password and never get phished or infected with a malware, it should be impossible to lose your account. I use a 20+ char password generated with KeePass and keep my OS secured. Never had any issue.

agree, but "should" often follows the "LOST"
what i meant is we should solve the problem together, we are human that why noone is perfect , and making mistake is human if not we are bot, right?

you should know John McAfee. and heard his story some days ago
no system is inviolable.
i think we should discus about how we take it easy for all members, readers and staff the forum instead of we say what didnt happen in the past.
your advice is useful for all members that havent met this issue but for me my experience is bigger

Please accept the fact that this is not all about because of the name its because of the merit why member's want's to recover their old accounts.

There are lots of ways to at least get a similar name like your old account such as adding number and others.

Before, people dont bother to recover a "member" account because they dont give value to that rank but now we can clearly see the result of the merit system, day by day passing by it is getting more harder to get merit's at the same time there are account's getting banned because they dont obey the rules.

This is a good sign that BTT forum is getting more cleaner day by day.

Dear Admin and Mods

I lost my first account in Dec 16, 2017,
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=370131

By the way I still hope that you will recover your old account especially if you dont violate any of the forum rules.

Also, in the near future theymos will release a system that helps staking an address and easily proving that you own that account.

It will be very helpful for those user who got locked account's without violation if this system already implemented.

I do not agree with you. We do things in past which has our emotions attached. An account holders might have his emotions for an account.

# I use 16+ character on my password combined with possibly everything
# Only me use my PC when I am away my windows is locked
# My connection is fairly secure
# I am well aware of phishing links and stuffs
# I keep my computer clean always.
# The associate email account also have 16+ character password.
# The email account is encrypted with fairly security.
# The email account hosted on the server is also has 16+ character password
# The server has 2FA active
# The server has bought from a highly reputed hosting service provider who are domination the hosting industry.
# All these 16+ character passwords are very different from each others.
# I save my passwords with PGP encryption.

But all these can not guarantee me that any accident will not happen. Anything can happen which you are not aware of and your account can get hacked. Would you blame yourself for it and will wait months long if not years to recover it?

Be happy be at peace. Looking forward to BTC at $1M

15 Year Old Kid Hacks John McAfee's 'Unhackable' Cryptocurrency Hardware Wallet! Plays DOOM on The Device
What does this have to do with using a strong password?

McAfee's device was far from being "unhackable". It's just marketing from someone who only cares about money and shilling shitcoins.

Actually, according to Ryan Castellucci's article called "Bitfi's hardware wallet is terrible" and CoinTelegraph's article, the device is basically a cheap stripped down Android phone that looks like the WarpWallet and generates a brain wallet password. And all of this will 'only' cost you $120.

I use a 20+ char password generated with KeePass and keep my OS secured. Never had any issue.

BTT allows you to put a 256-bit password (64 characters), consisting of lowercase letters and numbers. And if you add uppercase letters and characters, the password strength can increase to 400 bits.

Example:
Code:
9h$Vcruk0dz~M*!42J@&QUc%!Px=Xfm3@`O/2QOgJ+uSnLyt+U%pj?5cCF.DGG4j

If this is not enough Smiley, you can insert parentheses, space, underscore, and upper ANSI characters into the password. The password strength will increase to 500 bits.

Example:
Code:
Ö~ë¡Þ¾òí×Oó´I¥êð`ÑfÃåÛÁCÂ{\C©#ó'4cBæ¢øR;ü"ötJ³ZÿBè~1¬ýZÉø1ÕE¸V#¨

KeePass is a very good program for this.

15 Year Old Kid Hacks John McAfee's 'Unhackable' Cryptocurrency Hardware Wallet! Plays DOOM on The Device
What does this have to do with using a strong password?

Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy
it means there is nothing impossible,
security basing on (strong) password is not enough to protect from hackers
that is the reason why bitcointalk accounts are sold out there.
I think if we want we can make that worthless for hackers , if we do nothing stopping these activities , we all accept these activities are legal
