You need to analyze  an ICO before investing because investing is risky. There are a lot of scam ICOs who disappear once they gathered the funds. So, as an investor, you need to do your research, read the white paper, check the back ground of the team and make sure that your investment is secured.

Team :  You need to check the authenticity of the team and check the strength of the team to ascertain if they are capable of delivering on their claim. Check their paste record also.
Token Use-case: A project might be successful but the platform might not have a strong token use case, this in the long run would affect the value of the token.
The Project : You need to be able to ascertain the market audience of the token, who are to use the platform.

Even if the idea is so great or very innovative, you need to look at the other side of the coin.
