Now only if charts.glbse.com would stop saying out of coins.  Tongue

It'd probably help to send some coins to the displayed donation address.

Ha!  Ok I sent them a coin because I have used the crap out of that, hopefully coin karma makes the http 500 go away.

Tongue

Am I missing something? Where do you see a 500? The page is completely static, doesn't look like it loads anything via ajax, does it?

Maybe I'm naive, but I seriously assumed this was a way to collect donations.

They said it in a forum post somewhere I beleive..  I  remember seeing it and I guess I wasn't dreaming because avoid3d there said the same thing.. It's like maybe 1 out of every 30 tries you might get the markets page up.. there is some intermittent problem with their webserver or data feed.. i guess.

Nono I was absolutely sure that "out of coins" meant a 5xx error. I was unsure if everyone else knew this

Thanks for telling us.

Maybe he discovered this would increase donations (because people make the same wrong assumption as I made) and now he'll be slow in fixing stuff Wink

The repeated outages for the GLBSE are not good.

I would like to get an offering going but this has been happening more frequently.  Huh

Yes down again....  I will sell shares at the current price over the counter if that is what you are after. Just send me a PM telling me how many you want to buy and I will lock the current price for you. If you can get them on GLBSE for that then cool. If not I will sell them to you directly and send them to your GLBSE account.

Thanks.

Yeah, GLBSE will let you do this. You can just move stocks to different accounts. (assuming GLBSE is up!)

Yup, performed a couple trades with JL421 this way.

He gave me an address to send coins to, which he retains for me that I can deposit to at any time.  Once the address receives coins, JL421 then moves the equal amount of shares into my user ID for GLBSE.

This helped because some shareholders were undercutting the IPO price, but I wanted to ensure my BTC went to the company.

I believe this is essentially what Goat is doing, correct me if I'm wrong.

How much trouble would it be to make a new exchange?
I've been thinking alot about it.... and It really wouldn't be too difficult to have the same security measures.

Anybody who has a company on GLBSE: if a new exchange opened up and promised to be more reliable, would you move your company there?
I'd like to hear the answer to this too.  An exchange with a much more intuitive interface could be made.

I think the effort should be put into a decentralized stock exchange, not another autonomous one.  One where the tickers, issues, portfolios, contracts, etc are all kept in a blockchain type system.  The entry nodes are merely market makers much like the real stock exchange, you could also route your orders through a preferred market maker etc.. Your portfolio, balance, etc is not actually stored on any of the sites, but in the blockchain unlocked only by your private key.  There is obvious logistics issues to work out here, but I think through the use of PKC and the blockchain system, it is all doable.

I really do love the GLBSE, but it obviously needs alot of work, and the centralization is a blatant problem especially given the politics involved.  However, I think the just like cryptocurrency we are in the infancy on this idea and the development of an idea like i stated above is more or less natural progression given what we know about p2p / decentralization and how it has been implemented in the cryptocurrency world.

I would love to get involved in such a project someday and would be willing to throw some resources at it.

Good idea. We should start a thread on that so it can be discussed.

For a decentralized stock exchange, one could consider basing it on Open-Transactions:

i would be very open to moving.

I'm not sore sure I would be. GLBSE has a good security model. They (he?) just seem to need some help keeping bitcoind up or whatever the issue is.

I'd prefer seeing the GLBSE "managment issues" fixed and someone (or more than one) make a better web interface or improve the existing one (it's not bad, just needs a few improvements in my mind)

Yes, but they have not responded to anyone in 3 weeks? Have they just given up on it?

I want to keep supporting the GLBSE, but nefario boycotting this site makes it difficult.
