Dear like-minded people! I'm on the forum relatively recently. Nevertheless, I managed to notice that this forum turned into a rivalry, for the right to participate in bounty campaigns.

The forum is interesting for different people! Among them, many people who do not want to participate in the bounty campaigns that are held at the forum. Now outside the forum there are many platforms where the bounty campaigns are held. They can easily replace the platform for bounty campaigns that is here.

I think many will agree that with the introduction of a new system of assigning ranks, the very concept of "rank" has changed the meaning.

If earlier the rank testified to the activity and usefulness of the participant to other forum participants and the forum itself, now it is about its usefulness for bounty campaigns.

I invite the owners of the forum to think about how to separate the bounty campaign from the forum and return the previous, fair system of awarding ranks. Because the very concept of "forum" suggests that here the participants discuss anything relating to the topic of the forum, and not earn and compete with each other.

I can not say for sure, but it is probably financially beneficial for the owners of the forum that they conduct bonus campaigns on their forum. If so, then I do not blame. Every work must be paid.

Therefore, I invite to discussion in this topic and those who can offer the forum alternative sources of financial income. And those who have more information about the work of the forum and the purpose of introducing merit

Can you rephrase that into something concise and get to the actual point because I have no idea what you're actually proposing or are concerned about here? Is this just an elongated way of indirectly complaining about the merit system and that you can't earn more because you can't move up ranks and you want to go back to how the ranks were before? Or are you saying other websites are now doing bounties and you're worried about the forum losing traffic to them and losing out money? Please clarify.

I don't get this.  You registered in June.  Do you know what the forum was like before the merit system was implemented?  I assume that's what you're talking about, though you did not use the word "merit" at all.  Do you realize why the merit system was created?

I would argue that what we have now is totally fair, as it keeps shitposters from ranking up, which they do not deserve to do because they're responsible for the fact that discussion here is swirling down the shitter, clockwise.  As far as having any sort of discussion and learning--they're free to do either one of those things, since rank has nothing to do with it.

The rest of your post is very hard to read, since I assume English is not your first language.  I don't quite get what your point is.  You stated a bunch of things but it's not clear what you want to achieve, unless it's dissolving the merit system.  I don't support that; most senior members don't support that; and I don't think Theymos is even considering it.

I think what he is saying is that, he wants to hear suggestions to make the forum better, by somehow separating ranks and Bounties, as in ranks shouldn't be seen as a motivation to earn more Bounties.

Very funny Smiley. You're right. English is not my first language. My language is Russian. From the discussions in the Russian section you can see. Merit system does not understand even Full Member.
Maybe here there are people Legendary or Hero Member for whom the Russian language is the first?Explain to us . Where's the justice?
Maybe in English section of the forum Merit system helps. And in the Russian section - on the contrary. Or explanation is not reasonable. Huh

Another post about bounty like newbie post. I am not clear what you want to explain exactly. Probably you want to separate bounty platform from bitcointalk. I don't know why you think it is necessary, what's wrong with bounty. This forum has created for discusses about crypto, share knowledge & help each other. If you don't like to join bounty on one will force you. Many people don't like bounty. Admin already busy here with this forum. No meaning to build other website for bounty .

For once, I thought this wasn't about the stupid merit system, but oh well. Fuck me, I should have seen this bitching coming soon.

To clear a few things up: That joke wasn't intended to you, I never said your English is bad, and the Russian Board is the most active and the first ever local board that was created in bitcointalk. Merit is awarded in tons in that section, by Xandry, Xal0lex etc. And English isn't my first language either, not even my second, nor is it my third ,but rather its the forth language. So stop bitchin!

I joined roughly the same time as you did OP. I'm of the opinion that i don't think think it needs changed at all. This place would be archaic and an absolute ZOO if it wasn't controlled somehow.

I'ts fairly obvious what most new people come here for, so if you want to rank up and get to those levels then its only fair you should be expected to make some decent constructive posts and put some effort into actually participating in the forum, as opposed to just coming here for financial gain and offering nothing in return.

Its a two way street....unfortunately the vast majority of newbies can't quite grasp that!

Maybe the OP was trying to say that we should have a system where people can participate in bounties but the amount earned in the bounties wouldn't depend on your rank in the forum. Is that what you were trying to say?
In other words - a Member could earn the same amount of coins/tokens as a Hero member?!
Maybe that is what he was trying to say. If that is it, what system would you suggest we should have to determine the amount of tokens that get paid out for bounty participants?

Dear like-minded people! I'm on the forum relatively recently. Nevertheless, I managed to notice that this forum turned into a rivalry, for the right to participate in bounty campaigns.
Well, this is not for the forum concern. Meaning: if there is rivalry for entering in a bounty, that`s good, isn`t it? Let the best win  Grin

The forum is interesting for different people! Among them, many people who do not want to participate in the bounty campaigns that are held at the forum. Now outside the forum there are many platforms where the bounty campaigns are held. They can easily replace the platform for bounty campaigns that is here.
Ok, you are meaning that you suggest bounties to disappear or to create another side to place them?

I think many will agree that with the introduction of a new system of assigning ranks, the very concept of "rank" has changed the meaning.

If earlier the rank testified to the activity and usefulness of the participant to other forum participants and the forum itself, now it is about its usefulness for bounty campaigns.
You are totally wrong in this one. The older ranking system was based just on activity. The "new one" is based both in activity and in usefulness, not in bounties.

So your suggestion is to create another forum or another site to harbour the bounties, and to recover the old ranking system based only in activity?

I do not suggest lack of control and the zoo. The Russian section discussed the topic of merit. There were statements. For example:
"In the bounty there are too many people now, so the earnings of the participants greatly decreased. Merit - a convenient way to prevent new members from entering the bounty. Therefore, even if your posts are useful, it is unlikely you will be given the merit."
In this regard, I have a few questions.
1.    Who has the opportunity to give merit?
2.   Are there any requirements for them?
3.   Is it possible to say with confidence that their choice is dictated by an objective assessment of posts?
4.   What are the evaluation criteria for the posts?
5.   What other methods exist for gaining merit?

Maybe this in the Russian section just need to make more clarity.

1.    Who has the opportunity to give merit?
Everyone receiving merits has the opportunity to become a merit-giver. Nevertheless, there are two types of people awarding merits:
- The one receiving them, for every merit you receive you also have 0.5 Smerits to send, so, every 2 received merits you have one to give away.
- Merit sources. Trusted people in here, selected by the administrator receive a number of merits every month, I think, so they can award the people.

2.   Are there any requirements for them?
I think this question is already been answered in my previous explanation.

3.   Is it possible to say with confidence that their choice is dictated by an objective assessment of posts?
Everyone has a different mind in their skulls. So... it depends a lot. I can just talk by myself: when I give someone a merit, I usually check her or his post history, in order to determinate how many merits I will give to the person. If the post I think is deserving merit is OK, but the member`s activity is pretty cool, well, I use to give more than a single merit. I also check always if the thread is plagiarized or not before meriting. If, on the contrary, the member`s post activity sucks in general, well, it is improbable for me giving merit to her/him.

4.   What are the evaluation criteria for the posts?
Again, this is difficult to determinate, for everyone has a different mind and different interests. I am truly interested in social issues, in history and about the forum itself as a social environment, so I use to award threads or quotes that make me think about my own selfish interests. It depends on the person but, in general, the most merited posts are those ones with a curious and creative mind behind.

5.   What other methods exist for gaining merit?
Nothing but the sane use of this muscle called the brain. The forum is a huge place, with a lot of people talking about many different things every time. I`m sure there`s a place for everyone in here, you just need to use common sense and to learn. Just be curious and honest.

Maybe this in the Russian section just need to make more clarity.

Probably. Local boards are quite "orphans" about the rules and the new protocols implemented in here. In my own local I`ve tried to explain how the merit system works for, of course, not everybody can read/speak English. If you find your local to be pretty "lost" about this matter, just try to inform yourself and to give this information to others in your own language. This is a great way to help the forum and other users to understand the system, and also a great way to get the people of the locals interested in this particular matter.

Thank you for the detailed response. I'll check how it works in practice. It's really hard to understand in the Russian section. When I read the rules for the first time, half the rules were unclear. More questions arise than answers get.

Yes, I understand you. In locals, rules are not so clear, and no everyone has the ability of reading/writing in English. Just read the pinned post and try to translate them. I think this is really a good way to help the community!!!
I`m glad I helped you.
