I installed electrum bitcoin diamond 3.1.2
I found my seed from 12 words.
I checked the bcd I found and sent it to the exchange.
But the BCD was not sent, but the BTC was sent.
I think I found both BTC and BCD from 12 words.
I am sure I sent a BCD but it was sent to BTC.
The exchange had the same BTC address and BCD address.
So I think it's the BTC. Could it be?
Can a BTC be sent from a BCD wallet?
Can't I find my BCD in this case?
What should I do if I can find it?

From where you download Electrum BCD wallet? It seems to me that you have fake version from https://www.electrumdiamond.org/ , and this is something about what was being debated in this thread. I check official page of BCD http://btcd.io/#/download ( I hope this is official site ) and there is also available Electrum BCD, but that version is 3.0.5.3 and my AV is not like it.

I hope you did not lost your BTC, if you see coins on exchange just create new wallet in Electrum BTC and send it back to that new wallet/address. Your seed may be compromised, and it is possible to send BTC to BCD address since they share same address format according to what I know.

I installed electrum bitcoin diamond 3.1.2
I found my seed from 12 words.

Did you move your BTC out of this wallet before compromising the seed by entering it into a BCD wallet ?

I checked the bcd I found and sent it to the exchange.
But the BCD was not sent, but the BTC was sent.

Did you check the block explorer for BTC and BCD ?
Were the BTC sent to the address you provided ? Or to another (random) address? You might have downloaded malware which stole your BTC.

I think I found both BTC and BCD from 12 words.

This makes sense, since BCD is a fork of BTC and your mnemonic seed phrase does reproduce the private keys for the addresses you 'received' your forked coins to.

I am sure I sent a BCD but it was sent to BTC.

So, did you send BCD or BTC ?

First you have told that the BTC were sent. Now you are telling that your BCD was sent to an BTC (address) ? Please clarify.

The exchange had the same BTC address and BCD address.

This is quite unusual since exchanges create a new deposit address for each coin/customer.
What exchange were you using?

Can a BTC be sent from a BCD wallet?

If the BCD wallet is buggy or malicious, yes of course.
If it is proper coded and trustworthy (which you could never say about BCD), no.

Can't I find my BCD in this case?

 Huh

What should I do if I can find it?

 Huh
Please clarify your whole situation. There are some contradictory statements inside your story.
We will be able to help you once we understand you unambiguously.

I downloaded and installed my wallet at https://www.electrumdiamond.org/ Cry
I found a BCD in the wallet from 12 words.
I confirmed sending a BCD.
However, there was no BCD in the exchange, with the BTC being sent.
I found that the exchange had the same BCD address and BTC address.
Are you saying that if I set up a new wallet at http://btcd.io/#/download and send BCT back to that wallet, I can get my BCD back?

If the exchanges provides you the same address for both currencies, you at least got the transfer credited ?

Are you saying that if I set up a new wallet at http://btcd.io/#/download and send BCT back to that wallet, I can get my BCD back?

No, definitely not. It doesn't matter where your bitcoins are now. It only matters 'on which address' they were on the fork date.
You need to download a proper wallet for BCD (if such would exist) and import your seed there.

But make sure that you move ALL funds (BTC) associated with those 12 words off this wallet. Generate a new wallet (new seed, etc. ) and first move your BTC there.
Then try to redeem your forked coins. Please consider this seed as compromised since you have entered it into the forked wallet.

So, it seems that basically... you downloaded a scam wallet... and put your BTC Electrum seed into it.

Most likely, your BTC have been stolen... and your BCD... and possibly any other forkcoins that are worth anything. Undecided

it is best not to be lazy and ALWAYS run these things in a sandbox instead of your main system. being official website doesn't make it safe at all. for instance last year bitcoin gold was also official and safe but they actually released malware on their "official" website instead of their real wallet and infected many. then they claimed their site was compromised!

Maybe it is just false positive, some AV detect many wallets as threats. When I try to download that wallet before my AV is block that download, but now it is allow me to download that Electrum wallet. If you want Electrum BCD then it only makes sense to download it from the official site. Other option is to use their QT wallet or use BCD deposit address on some exchange.

yeah. their website was not trusted at all in early days and i don't see anything changing now either. what you are referring to is probably the fake website which also happened to be listed on their website as trusted web wallets to claim your bitcoin gold which stole people's private keys. but also for a short period it hosted a malicious software for desktop wallets.

i have been using VirtualBox for years now and i am satisfied with it. it can run any operating system that you can think of and can be installed on any operating system that your main computer has. it is also very flexible with lots of useful options.

I'll put in a vote for Oracle VirtualBox: https://www.virtualbox.org/

i have been using VirtualBox for years now and i am satisfied with it.

Generally, VirtualBox is good. But i wouldn't recommend it currently.

A new vulnerability has been found which allows to execute code on the host computer. [1]

Currently, it is definitely NOT recommended to use virtualbox on a system with sensitive information.

Especially since it has been published publicly without first contacting oracle. Including the code to actively exploit this vulnerability.
It will definitely take some time until oracle has a fix for it (as always).

In the meantime it might be better to use VMWare or any other virtualization software.

thanks for the link. it seems to be very fresh one (2 days ago).
i have to say this is not a reason to consider VirtualBox unsafe and not use it. there is never a 100% safe system. at least this is a vulnerability that we know of. but what about all those that we don't know yet in an alternative program?
here are VMWave security vulnerabilities for instance: https://www.cvedetails.com/vulnerability-list/vendor_id-252/Vmware.html
