I am getting goosebumps while posting here in the meta thread. Delete the thread if it's inappropriate in any way.

We keep posting here on Bitcointalk on various threads and it becomes tough to know who has quoted our text on which thread. I always wanted to know if somebody has quoted any of my posts so that I can reply to him. I was wondering if there could be a "Notifications" tab nearby the "My Messages" tab which would show the notification of the quoted messages from various threads. Do let me know if there is already something in this regard.

P.S : The "turn on notifications for this post " is not something which I am looking for.

I agree, i would like this feature as well.

Not only quoted, but mentioned too.

Sometimes in another topic someone may mention me, like @bitmover, or mentions a topic or a message that I created. I would like to know so I can participate in the discussion too.

There is the "forum search" feature, where you can put your name and see if someone mentioned you. But it's too much time consuming in my opinion....

Go here: Show unread posts since last visit or watchlist and click the new button on which ever thread you want to,scroll down and see if someone has quoted your post or has replied to you or not.

I think you misunderstood buddy. I know that we can look for new replies on the thread through these links but that's not what I want. I am particularly looking for a method where if a person has quoted your post then you get a notification for it or a place where we can find the threads where a person has quoted our text.

Cough! cough!! excuse me guys!!!

How to use Search function / find your mentions on topics

This is how I do it...

1. Go to search function
2. type your username in between a double quotation mark. e.g: "mdayonliner"
3. Enter a rough message age: For example 2 by replacing 9999, you can keep 9999 but in this case the search will bring everything and it will take long time.
4. Finally click the Search button.

PS: Sometimes this search function acts weird but most of the times it's really helpful. When it acts weird then try changing the number for step 3.

This is an alternative way I use since we do not have any notification or stuffs once someone quotes or mention you.

Be happy be at peace. Looking forward to BTC at $1M

I know you were asking for that, but that doesn't exist, and I probably don't think theymos will implement this any time soon. There are more pressing concerns here that are left unhandled. You gotta make do with what there is, unfortunately.

P.S2: It would be kind of you if you can spare a few merits on this post if this feature is what you need or if you find it helpful.

Wait, what? I guess that is considered a beggar request. I know that is a good suggestion you've got there but sparing some merits shouldn't be asked because you've found it amusing.

With the P.S2 you’ve added you’ve just spinned 180 degrees the OP. The focus will now not be on the topic, but on the P.S2 comment.

This kind of feature is what I'm hoping for, it would be a good reminder if someone quoted your post/reply on a topic. It will be great especially if you posted on a mega thread like Flat Earth .

I am getting goosebumps while posting here in the meta thread.
I was scared too, before. It was a failed topic that I accidentally posted on another section, which I moved here, and it gave a bad impression to the first poster.

Normally, if given a choice to do something and nothing, I choose to do nothing.
But I will do something if it helps someone else to do nothing.
I'd work all night if it meant nothing got done.

No, not really.

@OP, you are supposed to join in discussion and not just look at posts that are wirtten in response to yours.

What I always do if I want to know if someone has quoted my post is I always go back to my "last post history" and from that point on I'll try to go back to that thread by clicking each one of my recent post, I actually try to go to the next few pages if someone have replied or have quoted my post. And in my opinion it is not that hard or even I consider it as hard task as you can actually see if your previous posts have grammar and spelling mistakes and you can see it in a summary. And if you have quoted a person and you are expecting a reply you can always pm that person telling that you do so, there is no harm in doing that.

Notification feature is a great feature and i believe there were someone who already request this feature before, but you know, there are more important things to do by admin beside adding some feature. Lets hope that it will come in the new forum 2.0 and let us hope that the new forum come sooner too.

Meanwhile, there are lot of method, i personally like to keep my talks in record, sometimes i write it down or bookmarked the thread, and i use "last post history" to come back to my last post in the respected thread that i bookmarked or noted. It is an old fashion way, but it works well, especially if you are an active person in the forum, but it will be less useful if you have a break time and not too active. So my suggestion is, check your last post regularly, maybe like /3-4 hours.

If we need that feature we might as well just post it here? Some could have also merited the post if they found your idea worthy but by posting that comment you just made it obvious that you're seeking merits though this post. Not that I care but you may get tagged if someone takes the begging part seriously.

Edit the thread and strike out the "PS" part.

Thanks for the tip Joel. I wrote it in the P.S2 just because it wasn't my priority but would be nice to see someone who actually think the same to spare a merit. I don't consider it begging and I don't know why others take it as such a big thing.

What I always do if I want to know if someone has quoted my post is I always go back to my "last post history" and from that point on I'll try to go back to that thread by clicking each one of my recent post, I actually try to go to the next few pages if someone have replied or have quoted my post. I can search through my previous posts and scan for the posts that I have been quoted on. I have been doing that for months now but you know that not every post you do will be quoted by someone. It is time consuming and does not give us a way to uniquely identify the quoted posts.

I don't wanna sound demanding here and am seriously not "begging" for merits. I just thought it would be nice to have such thing and have expressed my opinion in hope of something in the future. I am sure Theymos would bring something regarding this if and when the time comes.

Thanks everyone for your valuable time.

Well for that problem I think you must just choose posts where you are expecting a reply for therefore you can see if someone has replied to it or not. Also I am not saying that your idea is bad, but I am just giving you some alternative solution because it is really the first time I see a person requesting for such feature, I know it is helpful but it will always depend on the admins if they want it or not. Also if you are expecting your posts to be quoted maybe leaving a note in each post or even in your signature section saying "PM me if you have quoted my post, So I can reply" won't be a bad idea.

Notification from the registered email in my account is enough for me. The only thing is if you haven't opened the email notification once there will be no follow up email that says "A reply has been posted to a topic you are watching by xxxxxx" I understand that we are not in the social media but its lazy to check all the replies or mention manually.  Huh

You're not the first to come up with such idea, I've seen so many threads with the same proposal. Why create the new thread? I'm sure the forum administration noted it and on it.

Honestly speaking this is a great idea, me too, I am also having a hard time figuring out who and what post did that person quoted or replied with, and adding the notification tab for that kind of thing will be really helpful and will make our lives easier here in the forum to have a great conversation, most especially to those moderators and bounty managers.

Do you both realise that if you open a thread and use the search box at the top in that thread and use the string of your username then you will find everyone who has quoted or mentioned your post in THAT thread (no other thread than the one you're in) so that feature technically already exists.
