All the data movement shouldn't even be a blip on your CPU usage. I think I get about 0% to 0.7% CPU usage on cgminer on a low-end Celeron.

If you're getting high CPU usage then something is wrong. Make sure "gen=0" is in the helixcoin.conf file.  If you're on Linux make sure it's using the libOpenCL from the fglrx install and not the broken one from the AMD APP SDK (this might apply to Windows also, I have no idea). The broken SDK libopencl causes an irq storm.

That was an oversimplification, yes

Mind you, Sha3 is different from scrypt and i can confirm that the cpu usage is from the sha3 cgminer and not a wallet with setgenerate turned on.

I couldnt tell you exactly why sha3 uses cpu like it does, but there are no negative impacts observed by the dev team, so we quite like the algorithm
I am using Windows 7 64bit, and I too can confirm High usage of CPU with CGMiner when mining this coin I do not get as high a number I am getting around 50-60%

Low end celery here, seeing 50 to 60 % cpu usage. Got 2 x r9 290 running 1100 gpu and 650 memory, At stock gpu clock I can knock 37mv off gpu voltage but at 1100 I can only knock around 11mv off the voltage. Seeing a reduction of about 6 Celsius - less heat and noise - electricity usage probably down about 20 %
I have my mem down to 800, i cannot undervolt my 280X toxic as I have the gpu clocked to 1225 to get 410Mh/s my 7870 and 7770 are not worth undervolting

I find helix is a nice coin. It just needs to come out to the "ordinary" mankind. It may be the only narrow area, but the own one, where the people use it.
Are there some ideas here?    Roll Eyes

From the technical side we'd try to assure the attractive distribution of the whole hashrate to be shown to the best advantage for the investors.
DwarfPool got some more than 50% hashrate, I cant exclude the existing users from my pool, but if it will depend on my pool, as soon as more miners come to helixcoin, I'll think about how to bound the new members on the technical level not to keep more than the permissible share.

We tried to keep that a fair distribution and what ended up happening was just another hash reduction. We will add more informative help on how to mine SHA3 to help get more people.

We would love to see more practical applications become available for people, and would love to assist people making them.

On a non-technical side, it would be advantageous for people to think about the state of coins. How many scrypt coins are their. And how many coins arent. In the future, perhaps the perception really should be a top three mentality. The top three of each algorythm are the coins that really matter in the long run. For miners, SHA3 is superior. For people investing, superior algos make sense as people move into them and increase difficulty.

We want the community to grow, value will follow, especially if we can keep adding exchange support and configs for those who just want to get in as an investment. Sha3 and Helix are better from the DNA level!

What the direction of apps are you thinking about?

Sorry if I'm wrong, but it seems to me, you change the definitions, miners are not "people". Miners do not deal with value of coin at all. They do not make the value of coin, but "normal" users do! People (not miners) also do not care what the cryptoalgorytmus based the coin on! no matter if there are sha, scrypt, keccak.. they are only interested in using of coin in real world.

That means, the sense of advancement of coin is to awake an interest of normal people but not miners.
For instance, to find a nishe interested in cryptocoin: online games, anime funs, porno etc..

With a coin based on PoW, the miners ARE important. Without happy plethora of miners, 51% attack occurs. Without the right crypto, there's also threat of the market crash from  ASICs.

Miners are also the people actively involved with the community, and buying/selling. What in the fuck are you smoking bro? Roll Eyes

Community is anybody who likes it, mines it, uses it, shares it, talks about it, anything!!! No confusion about that from us.
We need to grow all branches for a truly successful coin, and in its current state it seems somewhat hard for those who want to trade it to do so.
We are open to community thoughts and strongly encourage people to share ideas that hey think can help all of the people involved, which obviously includes miners!

Yes, of course, in your sense miners are important for EXISTENZ of coins, but the REAL VALUE of coins depends only on "normal" users and investors.
See on doge-community, who were not miners, but they had an idea, enthusiasm. the same with bitcoin/litecoin, it will be accepted overall because of distribution in real world for people.

The basis of a successful coin is the ideology!
If only the miners buy/sell, it leads to fail of coin. Many coins die just because the miner-community do not understand the importance to bring the coin into the real life!

One thing we might be able to do is connect more with the reddit community, but how do you break that barrier to entry is the hardest part of the endeavor.
