Does the BTC symbol go before the number such as $100, or does it go after the number such as 100¢?

It is critically important that we clarify the formatting of this.

What I normally do is:
If it is a symbol, put it in front (eg. $100, £100, ¥100, BTC100)
If it is a word, put it at the back (eg. 100 dollars, 100 pounds, 100 yen, 100 bitcoins)

...with the exception of "less than 1" dominations, where I always put at the back (eg. 25¢, 25p, 25 cents, 25 pence)
