Coinmarket is my most any site containing the most necessary information regarding crypto currency. From the Top-20 rating in my portfolio are 8. If I select 3 of them, then it's NEM, NEO and IOTA.

Excluding bitcoin my top 3 picks would be: Ethereum, Monero, and Bitcoin Cash.

Ethereum- Most widely used altcoin, lots of support, will move to POS in the future
Monero:  The most used privacy coin,  has a huge userbase on the darkweb markets
Bitcoin Cash- I know this coin gets a lot of hate but Bitmain is pushing Bcash hard and they have the funds to keep the price high.

I lately don't trust ETH. It seems to me that the position Vitalik Buterin can bring the loss of popularity of this coin. I have sold all my ETH stocks and now will not invest in this coin. I'm sorry to see ambition kill the second most popular cryptocurrency.

For now, I think ETH will be the best due it's very popular, the next is NEO and the last is EOS.
In future, the order will be changed to NEO > EOS > ETH.
NEO, I think it has the highest potential due to It has many improvements in technology compared to ETH that make it faster and cheaper

Bitcoin Cash- I know this coin gets a lot of hate but Bitmain is pushing Bcash hard and they have the funds to keep the price high.

Bitmain is pushing BitcoinTrash because they are bagholding millions of dollars of it and have no way to offload or sell it. They want other people to buy only so they can sell and exit the market, and the market will dump as soon as they do.

You would do well to stay away from BCH.

But he can't keep it in the top of altcoins for too long,this time BCH price heavily fallen even if he is holding so now people are converting their BCH into some other cryptos because they think it is not the coin to hold for the long term.I am also suggesting people to stay away from the BCH if you are looking for high potential long term coin.

For me it's Cardano, IOTA and Ripple.  I'm not counting Bitcoin and Ethereum as they are in a category of their own.  I would say Bitcoin and Ethereum are #1 and #22 but we already know that.

I'll go with ETH, LTC, and XMR. ETH is the most popular altcoin, it's well-established within the cryptosphere, and it's accepted everywhere. Then LTC because it's cheap and it's one of the few altcoins that I recommend to invest in for the long-term as it's one of the most solid cryptocurrencies in the market. Finally, Monero, the best privacy coin in the market, cheap, fast, more and more merchants are accepting Monero every day, IMO it's the most undervalued coin in the top20.

With the exception king BTC, three coins I would adjudge to be the best are ETH, EOS, and NEO. These are three solid blockchains with very huge potentials of growth.

Do not get smaller coins, or newer coins promising advanced tech. These coins have not withstood the time, and are typically subject to serious bugs (EOS for example). There are three coins you should always hold besides Bitcoin, and three coins only.

1. Litecoin. Litecoin is an alternative to silver, just like how Bitcoin is an alternative to gold. It is digital Silver/Silver 2.0. It is the second altcoin ever and has a relatively large network. It is worth holding for sure.

2. Ethereum. Ethereum has one of the largest networks and has the most developers working on it. Ethereum processes a ton of TXs/day and has a great core team working on the cutting edge technology for true on-chain scaling.

3. Monero. Monero is one of the only privacy coins that actually work. Monero has been around since 2014, and is well worth the hold. Always diversify into a privacy coin, and Monero is by far the best one.

Take it from me, I have been in this game for a while. I have seen a ton of coins get massively hyped up, fail to deliver, and disappear within 2 years. These coins have withstood the test of time, and are the only alts truly worth holding. Every other coin is completely redundant.
