Hey guys,

We got our hands on 5 x Avalon A841 immersion cooling miners, we are going to test the boards in a self built setup and post the test results at various OC states.

The hashboards are identical to standard miner hashboards but there are special PMU boards and a special controlboard which has some modifications.
From what info we have it should be possible to reach around 16-17TH/s with roughly 100W/THs power useage, but we will check it out and measure it in detail.

More to follow soon. (check also out our blog post which gives a little more details about the boards: https://www.cryptouniverse.at/immersion-cooled-avalonminer-841-851/)

cheers
Tom

no idea on pricing yet - to be announced

Any more unboxing photos? Packing, static shielding, etc?

boards were individually packed see below: (no idea if this is also retail packing standard)

Current status:

We put 5 boards together with an m3 threaded bar and used some plastic tubes as spacers - space between boards is around 8cm. We started to built a custom immersion cooling casing but had not enough time to finish it as we are going to a trade show with the whole immersion cooling setup in less then 2 weeks. So we decided to buy the setup in the picture and mod it to our needs. Total volume of it is about 120 liters. Next step is built the mounting for the power supplies...

Hey guys, nice work and cool setup.  May want to check on the plastic spacers as some of the immersion fluids react with certain plastics depending on which one you use.  What fluid are you going with?

We will use Parrafin Oil, we bought 110liters for this test setup.

Update:

We finished the customizing on our table, we made some wooden boards as PSU mounting spaces in order to keep this setup really tight. As powersupplies we got us some 2200watt custom PSUs with longer cables then usual around 80cm cable lenght. From what we expect the power draw of a single board can go in the range of 1800watts so to be on the safe side we use 2200watt PSUs. The oil cooler can be seen on the right side of the tank.
What is yet missing is the hose system from and to the pump and oil cooler and also we are thinking to use some kind of pedestal below the assambled boards in order to avoid very hot temperature spots on the bottom of the boards as the tank is made of glass.
Later we will show some of the electronics stuff we built below the table, we are using a thermal sensor with 2 limits, first limit starts up pump circulation through oil cooler, second temp limit starts up the fans on the oil cooler. The idea is to keep it as silent as possible for this setup. Next week the setup should be completed and running, we are currently a little busy with lots of other stuff so we have only little time to work on it and move forward faster.

You guys may want to reconsider the aquarium as that glass may crack at the temperatures it will seeing in this setup.  Also,I would be shocked if that cooler is going to cool 7-10kw of  heat.  I know it is a real thick core cooler, but the heat coming off these is quite a bit. It is amazing how much power actually goes thru that little setup.    I am not trying to knock you setup, just don't want to see you cook your stuff.  We have been planning an immersion setup for a long time and been in contact with Steve over these boards several times.  Been mining since 2011. I would be caution you with the paraffin as I am assuming it has the same properties as mineral oil.  We tried dunking shit BFL equipment without heat sinks years ago in mineral oil and the chips died in under 30 secs, they literally melted. We did have sucess with KNC neptune running in Novec, but that stuff is really expensive.   The stuff to use is the dielectric stuff they have down in Texas,I think it is BC888 bitcool over at engineered fluids.  Way cheaper than novec.

Suggestions  run 1  or 2 boards to start.

and downclock.

My  interest is peaked  as to what software comes with it.

I was able to downclock a air cooled  model  quite a bit.

Interesting idea I did always think why is there not a liquid cooled asic miner much like the CPU systems.
I would be concerned about the glass from the tank or possibly what ever is used to seal the tank reacting with the oil over time or with the heat causing some kind of reaction.

What tickness did you select in the tank?
what type of glass is it made from?

Apparently these boards are limited in quantity and won't be advertised. Not sure what the cost is for them but MOQ are pretty high to make my dreams of a blade tank in house not possible with these unless we can get a group going.

Also, looking at the pictures I might mount these to be able to pull a single blade out at a time. Then I'm no pro ... .

Yeah I was hoping for even a small update during the exhibition. Last I saw they were going to be demoing this there, maybe I was mistaken.

That would be a pitty, as the clock keeps ticking, and competitors wont wait either.
Even bitmain offers liquid cooling now, and its obvious that more will follow, as the ever increasing power needed to mine comes to a concrete wall as for dissipation of heat; other ways to cool are needed, so this would be a good step, especially for smaller miners, so why a limitation to these boards??

The A9 is coming ---------- maybe 67 watts a th

The T2turbo is here ------ 82 watts a th as confirmed by my tests

The m10 is coming --------  maybe 70 watts a th
The gmo is coming -------- maybe 80 watts a th

all will bury these board in efficiency.

They are fun but until a state of the art chip  is  provided they are soon to be obsolete

My T2turbo does 82 watts per th what do these do  per th?    100 watts or something close to that.  it is a few posts back.

that's the point i was trying to make: only thing special about it is the efficient cooling. When this is not readily available on large scale, competitors all are a better option...

I think they do  better on efficiency then 100 watts.

Right now my garage setup runs  1 T2turbo  as I can manage the sound and do 19.5th at 1750 watts

It runs a few gpus  about 2500 watts.  which is all I can do in the summer.

The solar array at buysolar's is maxxed.

IT IS FUNNY AT THE SOLAR ARRAY  all gear turns a profit as it is paid off and power cost unde 1 cent to maintain the gear.
So I could use this  but it is not cheap  and I don't care about the sound at the solar array.

In my garage  sound is an issue  but I need efficient gear to turn a profit so this quiet gear does not help me due to 100 watts a th.
