Doesn't sound like they can. Latest rumors say their cold wallets are frozen by govt agency due to the Silk Road bust. Ultimately this is what caused this mess.

You don't need to be police by the way to do that necessarily...

sure and it would also explain why Sarah claimed on IRC: "your coins are safe". If they lost cold wallet's keys so that nobody will ever be able to recover them, those coins are indeed in the safest place ever Grin
