I would store them on 3 USBs, I would make a keychain out of 1 USB, the other one I would put under my pillow and the 3rd one I would hide to a mysterious place

Pontifex (Solitaire) encypher them as bridge scores and poker hands and post them all round those blogs and forums as examples or "problems" ... But if you're going to use a brain wallet, use some complete nonsense phrase, if you're going to be secure, be secure, "do or do not there is no try"

I actually trust Coinbase with small amounts <5. Anything more Wallet with about 3 USB drives with .dats locked in a safe.
I wouldn't trust an offline wallet with anything above 1 BTC,

I wouldn't trust an offline wallet with anything above 1 BTC, Did you meant online wallet? because there were no cases of offline wallets hacked before

Would strongly advise you to store any BTC you consider too valuable to lose in offline mode as others have mentioned.
Don't wanna get GOX'd.

It sounds like by splitting them up and putting them on paper wallets you've acted in a very prudent manner. Put them in a safe deposit box and you are good to go.
I agree with DH about the integrity of the qt client. If it is not trustworthy btc is done.
If you are going to keep some online, I'd spread them out between a few relatively trusted companies like blockchain.info.
Good Luck!

Careful with writing down the passphrase, have heard of a guy losing it and losing ~50 BTC!

Unfortunately that's the only thing I don't trust.... BitAddress.org I know they're probably are trusted but I wish there was a way to generate a private key offline without trusting a 3rd party... +1 for python code. I've used/adapted (so it's actually random...) the code for mini private keys (Google the phrase). Use os.random not random. Run it offline and use bitaddress.org to create the address, also offline. Then you can use the key/address to cold store coins in whatever way you see fit. Paper wallet, hammered with punches into metal (my preferred solution at the moment), tattooed on your buttocks, hammered with punches into your buttocks, tattooed onto a paper wallet that you then hammer your buttocks with... you get the idea. Probably worth diversifying and keeping a bit at blockchain.info

you are missing the pint that he wants his btc save because like most of us he might be expecting the raise in price ..! so not point of withdrawing to bank.
