Checksum validation failed

Hi guys.  I have a bitcoin paper wallet generated offline with bitaddress.org.  The address starts with 1 and the private key starts with L.  I am trying to sweep it into an electrum wallet, but I get the following message:  the text you entered is not a valid private key.   I then try to obtain the wallet details from bitaddress.org offline.  It also comes up with the same error message, but also adds ' checksum validation failed.  Please what does this mean and what is the solution for sweeping my private key into electrum.  Thanks.

The private key is invalid. Either you mis-typed the private key or the printed private key is wrong.
The private key should be 52 characters long.

I just tried importing a compressed private key that i generated from bitaddress.org into electrum myself (L...), and it worked perfectly fine.

I think that you're not copying your private key correctly. How many characters is it?

Then i would recommend you to recheck if you copied the key correctly, as i suspect that you made a mistake with a character somewhere.

Also, you could try to make a new paper wallet and try to import the privkey of that wallet into electrum and see if that works, (it should) to make sure the problem isn't faulty(/outdated?) software.

In case you're having a hard time reading the private key: the following characters are not used: l ^{(lower case L)}, I ^{(upper case i)}, 0 ^(zero) and O ^{(upper case o)}.
If there's a QR-code with the private key, you could use a Mobile wallet to scan the QR-code. But before doing this, make sure you know what you're doing!

If there's a QR-code with the private key, you could use a Mobile wallet to scan the QR-code.

If it was a paperwallet generated from bitaddress.org, it should definitely have a QR code... unless it's just a handwritten paperwallet
