It is hurting me to see a lot of my brothers "toxicating"-(sorry for my term) this community just to have some sort of amount to support their needs.
I can't personally blame them since we already know how hard can life be if you are a regular Filipino (Financially).

Now this problem is being used by most of the scammers in this forum. To be specific I was talking about bounty hunting.

There are people who are actually taking advantage with this. Since they can easily give shitcoins to my fellow countrymen who don't have enough knowledge.

Eventually, this is leading our reputation to boils down to one of the toxic users within the community.

That is why I personally Urge sr.members to keep educating our fellow countrymen to understand why it is a privilege to earn by contributing towards this community and bounty hunting can't save them from poverty.

I bet you could make 1000x as much by learning computer programming... I have worked for companies that hired Filipino programmers... I had a friend who moved to the Philippines for a few years and made $35/hour (US dollars) building websites while living in Cebu

I'm willing to bet you don't make $35/hour begging for bitcoin

Wow that is great. I am also a web developer, tho the tough question here is that is your friend gaining bitcoin while doing some programming stuffs? What language is he currently using.

Sadly not all filipinos who are in this community does know how to do programming or do have the capability to learn programming as it is not for all.

Programming flew over my head LOL. I guess most people earning money here don't intend to do it for life, maybe just to get enough for savings.

Like you already said, not everyone is tech-savvy and that's the same everywhere. Hopefully all our kababayans are spending whatever money they get here wisely. Something like BTC0.060 is already large enough for a small business in lower income neighborhoods.

@Moloch your friend is definitely living the life. Things are cheap here for expats, so long as he have $ coming, it's all good. Just don't expect the internet to be great, it's one of the crappiest, among Asian countries just a tad faster than Afghanistan.

I am very much concerned about the way filipinos get their money from this community.  Most of them are stack into bounting hunting shitcoins. Aside from the fact that it isn't helping them they are also lowering the standard of our country towards this community.  Most of this coins actually doesn't have a real value as well.

The problem is that most filipinos are not capable of putting their self into institution that could teach them to become one of the developers. Another problem is that most of them doesn't have the right tools for it.

Please do not take it the wrong way, but investing your time and resources into a bounty program is nothing different than investing financially in a project / ICO. As many lost "something" to scams or shitty projects within a bounty program, a lot of other lost money too. So it's all about evaluating a project and a team no matter how you invest in a possible "future reward".

So he got his education elsewhere and moved to the Philippines, correct? That's quite different from actually being born and raised here.

Sadly not all filipinos who are in this community does know how to do programming or do have the capability to learn programming as it is not for all.

Or don't have their own computers. I'm willing to bet 90% of Filipino posting on this forum is done through cell phones, tablets or internet cafe computers.

I don't want to go off-topic here, but I am the only one who laughs every time I see someone talking about "investing" in an ICO? Almost all ICOs have no product, no company, no finances, no accounts and no vision. If this is your definition of investing, you might as well "invest" in a 5-year-old's lemonade stand. You aren't investing, you are gambling.

At least being born and raised here is not an excuse for anyone who really wants to learn computer programming. I know a dozen people who are raised here in the Philippines but earns the same amount as what Moloch's friend earned and knows how to build websites(albeit their skill on it being self-taught).

We can't blame them for doing so because most of them are just doing bounty in their free time.

Of course there was a hype and everyone tried to quickly make some easy money, and right, a lot of ICOs have no visions, products and so on. But this is due to the fact that everyone wanted to launch an ico and constructed an idea in the framework. Now is the time for startups with real ideas and products, where a token offering is the most suitable solution compared to classic venture capital. And yes, this is gambling, but funding startups is always gambling.

I agree that a regular job is great ways to make a living but if you ADD bounty hunting work it will add your salary. It is not bad to have both or focus on on e thing, It will be your choice to balance your time and have your money.

Most ICOS are a total scam. What they only have was their website and promises and thats it. If you were the owner of that ICO then you really are investing to scam other people.

Or don't have their own computers. I'm willing to bet 90% of Filipino posting on this forum is done through cell phones, tablets or internet cafe computers.

I guess most of them are using mobile phones. I have that mentality to not open this forum when Im on the internet cafe maybe they have the same mentality as well.

Funding startups are not purely gambling since if you do talk about legit startups with no hidden agendas. Startups has a pure vision so it is clear to someone who will be investing to that certain project of  what he/she should have to expect.

Still there is evidence that almost 9 out of 10 startups fail on the long run. Of course, within the blockchain area there are more startups with hidden agendas. You have to do the research and also have quite a bit of luck to get a nice profit, investing in ICOs or in classic VC.

To return a bit to the OP.
I suspect the problem stems from a need for small amounts of immediate cash, and a myopic view of the ways to obtain it. It is possible to improve yourself whilst you are earning this cash. You just need to have the will, and to focus on ways to improve yourself. I think it is sad to see members with several hundred posts, and no merits. A liitle less time spent in banging out rubbish, and a bit more time spent in checking and editing posts would probably change that.

For example - how much time does it take to snip a quote, and make your post less likely to be skipped over by a merit awarder.

however that is not the reality in bounty hunting. Most bounty hunters are not getting quick money from this tho it still fall to "free money" category.

That is why most of them woudn't simply care about the forum's status as long as they get what they wanted. That is the reason why it is also affecting other members from the same country and frankly that is not good for both users.
