What would it take to delete all banking records?

If any of you have seen die hard 4, the villian tries to destroy the entire electronic database system, wiping out all bank accounts , information, etc.

Realistically what would it take to delete all banking system data?  any clue on how many backups they have, where everything is stored, etc?  Same goes for the stock market holdings.

It's just numbers on a screen/paper, what would it take for everything to be wiped out?

i would think there are so many redundant backups, full and incremental, stored in so many locations, that it would be near impossible to wipe them all out. worse would be a days or hours of data lost.

i know just from my own backup strategies it would take a near end of world scenario to take them all out.

take out all internet and power in the world, that might do it. but then banking would be the least of ones worries.

Aren't the bankers working on this at the moment. They need to lose all the toxic debt that they created in an attempt to save the bankrupt fiat banking system.

Maybe a virus, preferebly something that resides in the hardware to be less detectable would be more effective in solving the problem and be less apocalyptic.

Given the situation that every banks, has too many walls to break. I think this is virus-ish is useless, not unless that the virus was implanted by the one who is guarding or monitoring it. Also, some banks still practicing the traditional way of banking. Manually inputting every transactions on to their books and manually auditing in a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly and like @vapourminer said banks have a lot of tools to backup it's data.

It's close to impossible to delete these records. A war could disseminate some but banks are witty as f*ck.

As an evil strategist, I don´t need to wipe out all records, I just need to create enough distrust among the participants in the system to make many of them unsure of what is real and what is not, what transactions came first and which later and if the claim of having credit to order payments are legitimate in this instant.

You see, there is a real use case for a blockchain to prevent that.

This all is a perfectly great anarchy fantasy... you think you want this but you don't. Within days you would be eating your pets. Within weeks there would be no bark on the trees or a blade of grass in the ground. The economy most certainly does need (and inevitably will) be reset. The WORST POSSIBLE way to do it is with some shit out of Die Hard or Fight Club and would cause the most suffering.
