I think 80% it's a lot but for sure last year were a lot of scams project and it seems it continues this year too and I think the majority of the ICO's are down a lot now but you can't blame them when you look at the bitcoin price.

I'm afraid that many scammers have already learned how to mask their projects, that no one can distinguish them from the real ones. I think that you need to choose those projects that already have a finished product. So you can at least reduce the number of scammers

Expression scam is not quite true. More than half of start-ups in ordinary life are also not realized. Scum is the original intent to deceive everyone

The rejuvenation of the market is possible only if there is strict regulation. And this is precisely the lifting of the anonymity between the Fiat and the crypto currency. Because otherwise serious money will not come here. Real money, not blown numbers on the charts, which are also blown down by a vertical drop

For selection, some indicators are
- escrow
- publicity of contracts and fund-raising. This information should be accessible and subject to analysis
- Ready MVP. No MVP? - go to the ass. They want to collect money on crypto-currencies, they go to the bank to take a loan, they make a MVP, they come here
- They threw a bounty or some jamb from the community and could not solve it - in the ass project

Numerous number ICO from 2017 were reportedly scams
Do you have any references to back up this conclusion, if yes then try put it in yout post for the sake of transparency. Dude this kind of statements create FUD somehow so you should be sure with this one because this was a sensitive issue.

Well, if it's real that 80% of ICOs last 2017 are all scams then I must say that I'm lucky to invest in an ICO belonging to the remaining 20% Grin. I invested on ETN and plan to hodl for a long time 'til it soars high.

In fact, in 2018 ICO has become even larger, but it seems to me that the number of scammers has decreased!

well based on your analysis, i have even witness most of the project just to come and fraud people and run away. i participated most of the project but nothing seems to come out after bounty programs ends. the only possible way to avoid being scam is just to read more about the project you are to invest or participating, doing proper research will give you good knowledge about the projects.

Their are no proven ways to sift these scams from the real projects. Most of these projects are scams. The only thing anybody can do(bounty hunter and investor) can do is to make research. Research the team, the whitepaper, their github, the technology etc, to be able to reduce the rate of scams
Does whitepaper can really help in knowing if the project is going to be a scam or not? I mean there could any whitepapers that have a very good contents but project developers thinking different ways or vise versa. Anything can be deceived even someone's identity. The only thing I we do is just go with the flow and see what wil happen.

I read it in one of the sites I was stumble upon, but I would not post it here if I am just making something to open up a topic or anything.

Many companies simply could not stand such drawdowns. Hunters are always very much drop rate of coins, accordingly the companies in this market difficult to survive.

Unfortunately, but this is true. 2018 does not please either investors or bounty hunters, most begin to lose hope due to fluctuations in the market.

You should make your own research before joining any ICO. You can read review, check their partnerships, whitepaper and their teams. You can not avoid scam after these things but definitely it will reduce the chances of getting scam.

Already, there are services that mediate between bounty hunter and ICO. This service takes a deposit in ETH for the amount of the bounty pool.
There are some legit community management services and managers that mediate between the ICO and the bounty campaign participants but the possibility that the project might fail not just the token sale but the product/platform development is quite alarming some of those ICO have some fake and empty promises to their investors but scam projects are the worst, legitimate ICO will refund its investors while the scam will run their money to their pockets.

You can easily able to find the good and bad projects. There you can see multiple projects available in the market but they are not a worthy all the time. If you read the white paper and teams details that is enough to got the perfect team as your investment.

I am not sure how this op categorize the people in these 2017 because I seesny people scammed in this year only.

It is hard to find good project, it is no more a news that 2017 and 2018 project are too full of scam. At the beginning there are project you will think they will end up as good project which later turn to bad one.

It is becoming more difficult by the day to find a good project, it was not only 2017 but even so far in 2018 there are numerous scams.... Let us keep doing our findings well before investing your time and energy in any ICO.... O wish there is a regulatory body to put ICOs in check.

Yeah. In 2017 and early 2018 there is lot of ICO and most of them reach softcap even hardcap also. If the ICO don't have that much good idea or project behind it. Cause at that time ICO is a big hype. Everyone talking about ICOs cause some of them already give a lots of profit. But not all of them want to have a good project some of them want just money. So many of them dealt their product  or they don't have a good product. So yeah many of them failed.
P.S. - if you take top 100 token which came from ICO 40% of them don't have a stable product
