Hi,
In the last couple weeks I've had two 1600T2 evga psu's arch on me, melting plugs on the psu side. One on a Canaan and one on a s9. I'm wondering what conditions contribute to this that I can control? I did some google searching but nothing really yielded much outside of replace the psu asap. Just hoping to control what I can to keep down time to a minimum.

They are running on 110V right? Have you measured wattage, temp, and amperage?

Running on 110? If so maybe your incoming power is sagging a bit which would cause the PSU to increase amps to compensate. Weaker units then go POOF? Just a thought... Mine on!

I've only run server grade PSU's for anything long term. I have used a few ATX's for testing.
There's a chance the steady load for that long has just worn out something on the inside. Some if the earliest advice I got on this forum was to avoid using non server grade PSU's for long term steady operation.
Besides that are they still under warranty?

Ok, I was going to have the company run an order for me today on a couple server psu's. Thinking though I might wait for the APW7 (1800w) to post again? Or are their psu's other recommend? I'll probably freshen up on philipma's posts here shortly.

My Bitmain PSUs run great with my Bitmain gear. I know they are maligned, but I'd run everything from the same company. Sounds like you need one Bitmain PSU and one Canaan PSU.

actually it would be sorcerers then both the atx's on on my canaan units now since their draw is a little lower. I guess I'll have to see if I can piggy back a special request for some.

I've been running two Avalon 821's per APW5 since feb and they've been golden on 220v. Use them for everything but two DragonMint T1's due to space constraints where I use MyRig PSU's instead.

How many PSU's of that model are you currently mining with? Curious the amount of which are giving you trouble.
It is possible that those power supplies are faulty, and just so happens those models have crappy protection, leading to you being shocked.
Bought three as i didn't have the 240v right off so I could use on 110v. So far two since Nov have arched and melted cables. We'll see whats covered.

As far as other psu's I have recently picked up a sorcerer and a bitmain 1600w.
I usually order fro. Amittylabs they have an Ebay store and do have units up 2800 maybe even over 3000w. Can't remember as I only have 741's doubled up st the moment. Good idea thinking of 1800w never hurts to future proof yourself for upgrades.

Looking at the similarities I think the cause could have been they were sitting vertical on the rack not horizontal. Probably a combination of building heat at the top along with the higher ambient these summer months. Putting the one I have left side ways with the exhaust intake fan up reduced the temp at the highest point just by touch dramatically. As well the unit left has zero atx cables where the other two burnt up. Those cables were the ones at the highest point when vertical on the unit, at least how I had them sitting. Still will be replacing and use for gpu's or upcoming space heaters this winter if needed.
Evga says they'll look at the units.

Those look great. We'll see for my next round since we started the group buy for APW5. Bookmarked the page for now.

Canaan came through before evga and they even had a three weeks or so lead time. This was slated to arrive Monday but I set the delivery back to Friday. Evga psu will be here Monday and I'll use that while wait for the APW5's to arrive. Though Philips recommendations were weighed heavily, I did take a chance to do some service promotion with the hardware group buy. Still waiting to hear back on the second RMA through EVGA but they have been really good as well. I can't say I'm disappointing at all by either manufacturer. update coming when I plug all this back together.
