I was just talking to Ebay customer service. Seems that ALL BANNED PAYPAL users who sold crypto are now allowed to make purchases IN EBAY using our credit cards. REFUNDS will also be returned to the original source of payment. Effective this FALL, by invitation ONLY a small group of members will be using their banking accounts directly, and will be reporting back to ebay any problems for improvements. Paypig used to share the same building...ebay kicked them out, they now have their own building (so I'm told).
There is no need to change your listed email on your account in ebay.
Within a year or two, Ebay will be handling all their own business. Minus our enemy the pig.

Ebay bought Paypal, so they own them. There is no lesser evil here unless a viable alternative for ebay comes around..

I would be waiting for a decentralized buy/sell portal which can give a heart attack to ebay especially their paypal service. Paypal is too centralized and seems like they are very good at ruining any business whenever they want. Anyone who ever used paypal for their business and when they become big they know what I am talking about. Paypal sucks.

Stay away from paypal if your dream is big.

I asked them if I could participate, they said that a very limited number of invitations went out....I laughed and told her (talked to multipul people) they need to extend invites to all the people who paypig tossed out on their ear, WE'd be more than happy to help stick it to paypig....the program starts this Fall. I told them to have their CFO give me a call, I'd tell him/her what Coinbase or any other digital payment options could do for them....

*Call Ebay, tell them you're interested, and why, get on the list. There are people that are declining to participate, so if there is an opening maybe some of us could take someone elses slot.....worth a try      To answer your question, they put me on the list, they were delighted that I was interested too.

I was banned by paypal many years ago but it never affected my ability to buy on ebay (except where paypal is the only option).

I know a lot of crypto-heads were banned by the pig, and sometime in the future, you'll be able to sell again      We all will, it's in the works

I guess that eBay had lost a lot of buyers and sellers due to the paypal bans,which means less revenue from all the fees they are charging.It's good to know that they actually care about their business and try to get new customers(ot try to keep the existing ones). They are losing the big "retail war" against Amazon and it would be great if they try to form a partnership with the crypto community,by accepting cryptocurrency payments.With the "crypto army" on their side, eBay might have a bigger chance to beat Amazon.

There are few decentralized marketplace such as OpenBazaar and Decentraland Marketplace (which run on ETH), but it's not competitive at all since it's far from user friendly.

I never heard of any of them. May be they are lacking advertising as well. These projects are fairly new IMO. If they are doing good job then some day they will make it popular. Ebay/paypal did not build up in a day. They are in the market for long time. I wish those marketplaces do better job in time.

OpenBazaar definitely lacks proper marketing, especially if you take into consideration that it went live back in 2016. It's doing a fantastic job, but as with every decentralized application/platform, if the hype isn't there, it won't be able to bloom. There is next to no marketing budget for OpenBazaar with how it doesn't generate any revenue on its own. It's free to use and there are no ways to monetize ad space (which is actually a good thing).

OpenBazaar depends on everyone here to spread the good word and recommend it to any of your friends and family members.

PayPal represents the thinking patterns of a traditional Banking system and Bitcoin was developed to disrupt these kind of services.

I honestly can't think of anything that's marketplace related and more user friendly than OpenBazaar. You can pay vendors instantly without having to wait for anything, and you can also choose to use an escrow option in case you don't trust the vendor, which is great. It's more user friendly than it has ever been, so definitely give it another go.

I would like it if OpenBazaar would stick it to eBay, because we need some competition in this space and we also need a solution with much less rules. 

If we can convince not only people but also stores to use OpenBazaar, it might turn out to become a potential competitor for PayPal. In most cases sellers complain about PayPal that it always favors the buyers, even in some obvious cases. It does end up costing sellers thousands of dollars in some cases, and Bitcoin (you can also use other currencies through OpenBazaar) tackles that with its irreversible transactions.

The only thing OpenBazaar will need to actually become a competitor, is some sort of a web interface so that people aren't forced to install software.

PayPal doesn't own eBay anymore but they still work together pretty tightly, though they're slowly cutting ties with each other.

I absolutely agree with 1Referee's statement about OpenBazaar not advertising themselves a whole lot- I only recently heard about them from this forum and one cryptocurrency subreddit I was browsing a few months back. Additionally, I honestly don't think Openbazaar is too difficult to navigate for a newbie. It's really just the small inconvenience of having to install software to view the marketplace that turns most people away.

Agreed. I was already aware of OB but found it rather silly to install a piece of software to use it, which made me discard it and not look back again. If most people do the same, it explains why there is next to no public interest.

Nowadays everything comes down to how convenient a certain product is, and while it may not be a big deal for certain crypto enthusiasts to install software in order to use it, it's actually a big deal for the average person.

Even a mobile app would make OB more accessible to the average person. Maybe they should start charging a small fee in order to fund further development and do something to market OB in the most effective way.

As I said, it has been a while since I used it. I will definitely give it a try again. On your suggestion to give it a web interface, I would disagree for the following reason. OpenBazaar is unique because it is decentralized and a centralized web interface would just void the advantages of the decentralization of the market place.

A centralized web interface will make it easier for governments and hackers to target it. Do you agree with that?
