Hi;

Although I have not yet installed one MN due to lack of time until today, there is a questions on my mind. How many MNs can be set up in a pc, any idea?

Kind regards

Your PC is probably not the best option even for one master node. The reason being, a master node has to be online 24/7 in order to communicate with the other nodes on the network all the time.

A much better option is buying a Virtual Private Server (VPS), hosted by a hosting company. You can then host several masternodes if you like, but a much better option would be to use one server setup for one masternode. For each masternode you have to download its blockchain, so your hosting package should have enough disk space to accommodate the blockchain and enable future expansion.

If you decide to run several masternodes on one server, you will be limited by the memory imprint of the running node. This obviously depends on the coin(s), but you probably won't be able to run more than 3 or 4 of them at the same time on the same VPS. It also increases the risk of all your nodes going offline if the server is down.

I think like the above said it is better to have one master node for one pc but you can still run more master node if your PC have higher specs.

Also, it should be run 24/7 so the only one that I know the alternative for it is raspberry pi it's a lightweight small machine that you can run 24/7 this is mostly recommended from many users here in the forum.

I've set up one node on a raspberry pi that I run at home. So far so good thanks to very stable internet connection and no power outages yet. Would it be possible to use one of those portable power banks as a makeshift ups?

Hi;

As much as I understand, depending on the technical requirements of the selected MNs, I can install as many MNs as I want on my PC / workstation / server or VPS.

Thank you

Yes, they have small requirements. I think it's no different than running multiple wallets of different coins at the same time. Just check CPU/Mem usage after installing each additional one and you're good do go. If you have good internet connection, plenty of space and RAM you should have no problems.

You can have your controller wallet (wallet with the coins in it) on your home pc/laptop/pi. This can be 1 or as many as your processor will allow, on the VPS it is different, you can only have 1 masternode per IP address.

So depending on how many different masternode coins you have I recommend putting as many different masternodes on 1 VPS as long as they are different coins. Consolidate your nodes on VPS, don't pay $5-$10 per masternode on VPS and leave additional RAM space on your servers, get as much bang for your buck as you can.

Given the current state of masternode coins you really need to be frugal with your VPS setup, there are alot of good providers out there that are cheap, run a google search and find what is best in your country, $5/month for around 1k mb of memory is standard, some services let you go lower than that.

Good luck

The biggest issue with hosting them yourself is that you must have a static IP Address for a masternode.  Here in the USA at least, most people have a dynamic IP Address which does not work for a masternode.  Sometimes you can pay extra from your ISP to get a static IP Address, but it's not even an option in some areas.

I'm currently using digitalocean, but strictly for web hosting. I've never tried hosting a masternode with them, but it might be possible. The cheapest plan is a $5 monthly plan that includes 1 GB of RAM and 25 GB of space. I have no idea whether this is enough for your MN coin of choice, but it might be worth checking out.

There's plenty of sellers in the Digital Goods section that sell AWS and DigitalOcean gift cards and vouchers for pretty cheap, and I've used both services before as a result. Both are great services if you're looking to go the route of a VPS, DigitalOcean doesn't allow mining on their VPSes and will ban/suspend accounts for doing so IIRC, but besides that I've never encountered an issue with either service.

I have also hear of DigitalOcean being strict on mining. But running a masternode has nothing to do with mining. Or at least it shouldn't be CPU intensive, which is the main concern VPS providers have or care about. In any case, they may not be able to discriminate between these two things. So I agree, one should clear this out before going with them. Other than that, my experience with their service is also great.

Same here. You can use Apollon Node Builder for monitoring and easy setup.

Depending on the masternode coin, each masternode may need its own unique IP address

Hi!

The maximum number of masternodes I've setup on one VPS is at the moment around 20, but ...

1. Your home PC is not an option ... VPS is easiest (IP ranges, avaliability, ....) and cheaper
2. If your are going to host less than 3 o 4 masternodes don't go the VPS way ... it's better to use a masternode hosting provider
2. If you go the VPS way ... you have to have plenty of RAM and add large amounts of SWAP ... (i.e ram 8GB vs swap 16/32 GB)
3. IPv6 is your friend ...
4. RPC ports have to be carefully arranged ... or even better disable RPC at all
5. systemctl scripts have to be tinkered with to cope with low ram issues
6. The blockchain should to be pruned to save HD space ...
7. And so on ...

Cheers,
Sergien
