Terrytibbs a known/labeled scammer is hosting these domains.

For personal reasons Coblee (litecoin dev) thinks he has better moral judgement than this entire community and is knowingly letting terrytiibs run both domains with download links to the binaries.

His exact quote on the matter was: "the worst he can do is basically put a malware binary as the link to the Litecoin client download"

There it is, just a simple PSA so everyone can make their own decision on whether or not they like to download binaries hosted by a proven scam artist.

Peace.

FYI, litecoin binary downloads are not hosted on the website. They are hosted here: https://github.com/coblee/litecoin/downloads
If terrytibbs changes the website to link to different binaries, I will take down the site. This is the same situation as if a hacker hacked into litecoin.org.

BTW, litecoin.org is down currently. It will be up shortly.

Terrytibbs a known/labeled scammer is hosting these domains.

No files are hosted on those domains, please lock thread or at least edit to include relevant information.

I am working on a Litecoin page that will be like a weusecoins.com, that will not be updated often, will host minimal info, but it will solve the terrytibbs issue I have noticed come up a couple of times, giving people an alternate url to throw to people.  More people and pages will come, but this thread was unnecessary for your personal vendetta.

The binary may not be hosted there, but the main download link is.  And I wouldn't want to wait until AFTER my computer was infected for you to take action.  So this is a simple PSA to let everyone know that YOU are comfortable risking THEIR safety/privacy in exchange for free hosting.

1. Please learn reading comprehension, my post said the download LINKS are hosted on his site, not the binaries themselves.

2. I have no personal vendetta, he didn't scam me or anyone I personally know.

3. Coblee himself requested that a new thread be made for the discussion.

The binary may not be hosted there, but the main download link is.
The main download link as far as I can tell is in the Litecoin thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=47417.0, I pull my downloads from https://github.com/coblee/litecoin/downloads    I do not use the urls you listed or give them out based on the creator of the coin having the ability to update that thread more often than the page.   Also, did you not already include all this information in the thread?

Believe me when I say I have read the issues regarding his tag, my personal opinion is it should stay on him, but that is just based on reading random threads that people kept linking.   Still, not the time or the place, and definitely not related to the sites where litecoin info is hosted.   If that was the case, then MagicalTux would have a scammer tag for hosting bitcointalk, the birthplace of all the Bitcoin scams.

Edit:  When I was replying you seemed to have replied.

1 - Fuck off, you can be polite.    So basically any site that links to the github page is up for your attack?  Or wait, any page that terry links to anywhere is up for your attacks?  Or excuse me, not attacks, your great service of passing on information you have already given and he has a damn label everywhere he types here.

2 -  You do have a personal vendetta, meaning you are personally taking it upon yourself to carry on this issue.

3 - Good for him, I disagree

No one is buying your 'Oh its just a PSA'.  I dunno why you're so pissed at terrytibbs, but the way you went about wording this post shows poorly on your end rather than terrytibbs end.

The tone of your post was of severe butthurt.

I think you should not ask people to learn reading comprehension when you don't even know what you wrote yourself. Here, let me quote it:

Yeah, it was a simple mistake on your part to imply that the binaries where hosted by terrytibbs. I assume you didn't think github.com is a scam site. And I just replied to correct that mistake so people don't get the wrong impression from your PSA.

Reported thread just to get this personal spam out of here, I guess it is up to mods to decide whether this thread has any relevance to alternate currencies or this is some weird thread to get everyone to judge terrytibbs a certain way, as though the label under his name is not sufficient, even though the forum mods seem to think so, but I guess you know better then them chieffery.

If they edit his scammer tag to include the litecoin domains as possible scam front, I would be more than happy with that. But at the moment, without my post it isn't readily known that both the litecoin domains run high risk of having links to malicious binaries.

Thanks for all the bumps, I am really am glad this go in the public eye.

My tinfoil hat pings this as an attack on LTC rather than just a 'PSA'.  The childish 'LOLZ thnks fur da BUMPS' lends to a personal angst involved.  "Run a high risk of having links to malicious binaries" - how do you determine that?  Did the guys previous 'scam' involve malicious code?  No?  Okay, I see, my tinfoil hat may be right.

Honestly, if this thread get's removed then that would be very hypocritical... there is nothing wrong in this thread.  And there are a whole lot more stupid threads that can be cleaned up over this one...  Judging people seems to be a way of life for many out here in alt currency land, it's really quite pathetic in all honesty with that said.

I think you should not ask people to learn reading comprehension when you don't even know what you wrote yourself. Here, let me quote it:

Interesting but known double standard out here....

Anywho...  From what I understand of the situation, although I honestly don't know the whole story, TT was somewhat unjustly labeled a scammer, but surprised he hasn't gotten it removed yet if he truly wasn't a scammer.

Limiting direct references is probably a good thing until the label can be cleaned up, but then again it's just a hosted site.  Just if you download from there, add a little extra precaution is all that is needed.  Virus scan the downloads, if independent checksums are provided use those on the exe's and you should be safe.

Peace and Good luck.

Glad to hear someone with calm, collected, and rational thoughts.  Peace and luck to you as well Smiley
