What big charity would bitcoiners get behind? What is the best managed charity with the most worthy cause and the best money management? Which charities do you donate to already?

Some ideas:

http://www.forbes.com/top-charities/

Lets get the world's best charities accepting bitcoin. We can setup a multi-sig donation funds for whatever charity the community nominates. The chosen charity can receive the donated bitcoins as soon as they accept bitcoin.

The big ones all waste too much money. You need to give locally to ones with low overhead.

I completely agree. I just thought getting a big one to accept bitcoin could be like getting another overstock.com on board. Great for adoption and great for setting the example for smaller charities.

Maybe we should take the opposite approach. Maybe you're completely right and the change will happen with small local charities. I like this approach too.

I`ve personally donated a bunch of btc to the post, I`d like more options though as helping one citys homeless in the states is not as rewarding as helping people all around the world. We need more bitcoin donation services and charities.

Heifer.org
locksoflove.org or wigsforkids.org  You can also donate hair...c'mon guys grow out that hair for kids with cancer  Grin

bethematch.org You can sign up to be a donor for free and yeah...let's get 'em bitcoining

I'm biased to Rotary International (because I've been a member and served on a local board). Getting local clubs to adopt may be an easy way to start.

Someone with skill should propose it to the big tech companies who already have foundations; Example: Bill and Melinda Gates foundation...
I would assume that you wouldn't have to exhaustively explain the concept of bitcoin to Mr. Gates.

There 'used' to be more truth in forums than anywhere else.  Twitter:  @cryptobitchicks  Spock: "I am expressing multiple attitudes simultaneously. To which are you referring?"  INTJ-A

Hi All,

The BitGive Foundation was established to provide a platform for the Bitcoin community to give back to charitable causes on a global scale.  We are focused on public health and environmental causes and choose reputable charities that have been vetted in order to make sure the donations are well spent and with organizations that are in good standing.

While not many charities accept Bitcoin, our first drive was for Save The Children Philippines Relief, and we helped move the ball forward with them to more broadly accept Bitcoin.  They have received donations derived from Bitcoins from the BitGive Foundation and later GamingforGood.  They also have an account with BitPay and are working towards more broadly accepting Bitcoin.

BitGive is also currently running a fundraising campaign for The Water Project who accepts Bitcoins!  They are working to provide safe and clean water to communities in Africa.  You can donate to our campaign with them here http://bitgivefoundation.org/2014/02/bitgive-fundraising-campaign-for-the-water-project-they-accept-bitcoins/

You can also learn more about the BitGive Foundation and donate to us directly here - http://bitgivefoundation.org/

Happy Giving!
