Asicminer Exploding Cubes! R.I.P.

I bought a few of the Asicminer 38GHs cubes frmo eBay last year, both have been working well until recently.

I moved one of the cubes onto a bench with more airlflow, after an hour I popped back to check on one of my scrypt miners to find a nasty smeel coming from the loft.

The nasty smell of burn out components stank out the loft

Thinking the PSU had died I pulled the mains plug and continued fixing the scrypt miner.

A few days later I went upstairs with a new PSU to swap out the dead one on the cube. Turns out it wasnt the PSU, it was the cube

I thought you may like to see a few images of the charred remains. In places it has burnt completely through the PCB.









Believe it or not the blades actually look OK, it seems the heat/damage is isolated to the power connector area.

I have not tried the blades from this miner in my only remaining one as I didn't want to risk blowing it up as well.

If there is anywhere I can locate a replacement backplane it would be good. If anyone has any ideas on a replacement please let me know.

Hmmm I might just  go and change the fuse in mine from the one that came with it to somethign else...

The cubes are made by AsicMiner not Bitmain...might want to correct the title so people don't get false information.

Poor contact gives higher resistance, which means the fuse heats up.  Cheap fuses have thin legs, which means there's a poor connection, especially when they're not pushed in correctly.  If it's only pushed half in, there's very little contact on the legs of the fuse, and you have scorchio!

Yes, OP please change the subject it's very misleading to Noobs.  

Asicminer makes the cubes.  Bitmain makes the Antminer S1s, nearly 150 GH/s difference!

The cubes needed taking apart when they were delivered and all heat sinks tightened, I checked the fuses before I turned them on. Both miners were happily mining for 2 months before the meltdown in the pictures.

The blades all look untouched apart from one which the plastic is a little smokey.

I don't suppose there is any possibility of getting a new back plane?

Damn. I'm gonna double check my fuse as soon as i get home. My cube runs pretty cool, warm airflow but the shell is cold to the touch. I havent heard the same from other users on here. But I've never checked how warm my fuse was.

Where you overclocking it or running regular clock?

They really need two fuses.

That one fuse is just for the relay switched power to the blades.

Both Cubes were running OC but the loft where they were mining was around 7C so heat was not an issue.

I run S1's OC and the temps are normally around 35C with them running OC.
