I am interested in the technical background of the generation of private and public keys for Bitcoin and Altcoins because I am working on a new website for paper wallets.

1) Bitcoin:

There are a lot of resources in the internet about how the key pairs are generated. I also found a good jquery library for the key generation. So, that works fine. But there are still open questions, e.g. in what classes of the original Satoshi client are the keys generated and used? I mean, I am just using the jquery lib that does all the work, but I also want to know a little bit more about the details, because:

2) Altcoins:

there are a lot of Altcoins. I think 297 at the moment. How do I find out, how the key generation works for a Altcoin? Most are based on the Satoshi client, so I could look this up if I download the master client of the Altcoin and know where to look. Does anyone know where to look?
Make sure you back up your wallet regularly! Unlike a bank account, nobody can help you if you lose access to your BTC.
