it depends on what coin you are talking about. for bitcoin it is anything that is related to its adoption. for instance a big company (like Amazon for instance) to accept bitcoin as payment, or another "real" example is Japan adopting bitcoin as a legal currency which led to one of the biggest rises in bitcoin price history.

but for altcoins it doesn't really have to be real. for example the hyped up news of Pornhub adopting some altcoin (Verge!) can lead to its pump. but it won't be a rise, it will be a pump and a pump means there will be a dump as we saw with Verge and the way it got dumped.

These days the news is so unpredictable with price that even if you had a time machine and could go in the future and see what news will come, you still wouldn't be able to make money.

Here are a few examples which are recent.

1) When the CBOE ETF was delayed - price had a huge crash immediately following and we all knew it would at least get delayed and it wasn't a rejection. This news should of already been factored in but it wasn't.

2) The Vandex and Direcxion and the other ETF were all rejected (not delayed) and you would assume price would go down but instead it went up.

3) Bakkt news. Seemed bullish but price did nothing and a few days later went down anyways

4) ETH Issuance reduction - ETH block rewards are reduced which means less supply and price did nothing.

5) ETH ETF announced by the futures market - Price did nothing.

I don't know if the bad news or particular comments about the coin or rather token affects it value. But as the time goes specially on technological and social media affection it maybe affects its value. In other hand, BTC also encounter this though. Many people used to say this is a scam so it booms in the market and now one or rather the top grossing valued crypto currency in the market.

You are not wrong and the news that will have effect on a coin are positive news. Those that will prompt more investors to place a buy order like network upgrade or technology to better one. Adoption and general positive news that will increase the crypto market cap.

Right now there's little that really seems to influence the market price. The only thing that seems to be having any influence is news around ETF's. Normally news of adoption etc would be positive but it's quiet on that front and any news about regulation could be positive or negative but again it's quiet on that front.

Bad news do not affect bitcoin that much anymore, I do believe. Bitcoin is the first line of defense on a news affecting the price because when the bad or good news happen its bitcoin that moves first and alts after that. Moreover, if there is a coin out there where the owner does a bad thing or just scams the users of that coin it will of course get affected horribly. Without that type of news the news like china bans bitcoin or etf got rejected or similar bad stuff doesn't reflect on the price too much because people are grown into this stuff already and only expect the good news to come to affect the price in a good way.

Mtgox problem led big collapse but now a days we are having alternate choices for every application like web wallet or exchange or debit card provider. Hence, hacking will not make people panic anymore as far as I have observed in recent times.

The current market is positive so we will see some positive market in this week. But most of the time regulation and banning issues are affect directly in all the price. This price fluctuation is mainly possible on panic selling and whales involving that means market will never go down on suddenly so some reason is available in all the fluctuation. Recently ETF attempt is failed so it will go down but many times ETF was failed in the so market will growing soon. We don't believe any news and we must analyse the exact news in price variation.

News were quick to drive the market up last year because of the uptrend but this time around, negative news have always been quick to drive the market down pretty fast with everything still resorting to some forms of manipulations anyway.

News these days however, have taken another shape as we tend to see the market less driven by news and it just seems to do whatever it pleases with obvious manipulations left, right and center. I guess with situations like this, we just have to always wait and be careful even when attempting to trade the market based on news.

There are a lot of news that can greatly affect the market but it can be categorized into Negative or Positive News.

Positive news - A news that can influence that price to go up. New cash flows in in anticipation of a bull run. News like when Japan entered the cryptoverse or when CBoE and CME offered bitcoin future contracts.

Negative news - A news that severely impact the market, a price pullback. News like when China made a U-turn on crypto. Negative news can also be FUD (Jamie Dimon or Warren Buffet attacks) or just pure fake news as well.
Bottomline is never to panic especially when you read or here negative news. As much as we don't like it, people will spread it like its the end of crypto, you need to use your common sense so that you can make a good decision regarding your investment.
