Do you think is the right time to sell old GPU like RX470, RX480, GTX1070 ?

Your question is like a unresolvable paradox.

If I say yes, then maybe I just want to buy your GPUs cheap. But what if I'm dumb and I tell you it's really a good decision to sell them right now and we break down the prices by dumping a lot of used GPUs onto the market....?

I'd rather say nothing at all.

May I know the reason of selling? I am the one who is trying to enter the mining business LOL sometimes some tiny information will be huge help for me.

Be happy be at peace. Looking forward to BTC at $1M

We are in a special situation as used GPUs won't get significantly cheaper but mining profit does not seem to change either (not to the upside) considering all the coming new mining HW (FPGAs expecially).

GPU price is depends on current demand of GPU card because resale value is little less in GPU so you will never get good profit in old GPU. But If your country is supporting to mining platform and cheap Electricity is possible in your country surely your old GPU will get good profit in this scenario.

Yes, if you have problems with:
  • The Electricity costs
  • The Internet fees
  • income
  • The Room rent (If)
  • your neighbors are disturbed because of noise
  • or you will retire

I still wouldn't sell them, there is a massive talk about GPU rentals for mining and it's related ICOs. And everyone knows rx 580 and etc are great for mining, so who will buy 24/7 used GPUs ? Personally I wouldn't, prefer to pay more and get more (You get what you pay for, not always but usually).
Also don't forget that you can mine not only ether but other coins too, for this reason I would keep Nvidia cards and maybe sell RX series, you know there are already ASIC miners for ethereum.

Right now it's hard to sell GPUs.
Most miners don't buy GPUs anymore and most gamers don't want them if they were used for mining.
I decided to sell my GPUs, but there aren't many interested buyers so I will keep mining until someone buys them.

I think it would be a great time to sell the Rx 470 especially now that the Rx Vegas are down on price too. You can upgrade to a real profitable Gpu miner with the Vegas series as they can do really well mining Monero V7 algorithm. The rigs with Rx 470/480/570/580 are not that profitable anymore.

If you can find a buyer which can pay a price of up to 200 Euro or a bit more for a card it might be a good idea to sell those. The Nvidia series 1070/1080 are still more profitable than Rx series mining some specifics coins.

Don't sell them on Ebay as it is not worth it as the price is down there right now.

If you're currently mining and selling right away, then yes, it's the time for you to sell them. However, if you're having a macro-strategy, and you're not selling the coin right after mining it, then you should continue mining (of course, only if it's profitable and gives you in return your electric cost + some profit) and just forget about selling it.

most gamers don't want them if they were used for mining.

So true. In almost all of the GPU-buying related ads, gamers clearly mention that, "don't dare to contact me if you've used the card for mining!" Roll Eyes

If you do saw you are not already profitable. Why not?
I have a rig composing of mix rx470 and 480 but due to difficulty together with electricity bill i do have result on negative profits. If you are mining just for hobby and passion then dont sell it but if you
are after with profits then sell it up just to cover up a part of your capital.

I think selling your items in general will only be based on your discretion and reason regardless of the price(as we know right now that the prices of second hand GPU is dropping due to mining decline). So if you really need the money then sell your GPUs.

I believe the RX 470s are actually one of the most efficient GPUs out there for mining Ethereum (in terms of everything, cost, efficiency, etc) so i'm keeping them since they're all paid for anyway. To hedge value i've sold my RX 480s. The 1070's i'm keeping so i have a more diverse mining capability.

Other than those and some Vegas (for cryptonight coins), i've sold everything else.

more or less: right now only those with very cheap power are making profit. unless you get the hardware very cheap you are generally looking at a ROI of years, and thats no guarantee.

The event of ASIC and FPGA interventions with supposedly ASIC resistance coins were once again threatened
gpus

Monero forks were helped me decide in keeping my gpu's to hang on

with todays coin prices, no profitability made those GPU owners to sell off

I've had this issue in the past when I actually was buying GPUs for mining, I didn't want any that was used in mining either.

The reason why is because the older GPUs like the 280X, they used massive power like 300 Watts per GPU. And most people who mined with those GPUs probably didn't have adequate cooling and the fans always ran at 90% and were near dead.

I noticed that most of the ones on the market however were mined with because the seller had no idea what the current gaming titles were or anything about high spec PC components like which i5 or i7 CPU to get, RAM speeds, etc.

However in the end its impossible to prove if it ever was mined with or not. Some non-mining GPUs can also have dead fans.

That's right, I have 2 (280X) and to reduce heat I add VPM at every angle, this can reduce 2-5 degrees. I lowered the GPU clock and fan settings at 80%, I recommend for anyone who has this card it's better to pay attention to replacing the processor paste.

With current low coin prices GPU mining is unprofitable unless you have very cheap electricity. Im afraid that selling your gpus right now will not give you the price you are hoping. I'm stopping mining as soon as I have enough for a MN and I wont sell my cards. I suggest you keep those cards and wait for a speculative coin with low difficulty and potential to appear. In the first few months you can mine a ton of coins.

I have also stopped mining with my small rig week ago, and today I wanted to clean and prepare them for selling (1070/1080TI AIB models), But I found big problem! somehow the  Aluminium Heatsinks started to build white corrosion right under the fans, they were fine when worked week ago - but now I don't know what cause it and how to remove it- Any Help?

I suppose you live near the sea and the high humidity and salt in the air caused it. While the cards were working the heat protected them from moisture. You could try a high quality wd 40 anti corrosion spray. Its not electrically conductive so your cards should be ok. Dont buy that cheap Chinese stuff.
