How “we” do you feel?

When I joined this forum, over a year ago, I was thinking in terms of “I”, like: “I’m going to see what all this is about” “I’m going to try to learn about bitcoin” “I don’t know if this will be too difficult for me”, and so on.

I’ve been increasingly involved with the forum and now I think more in terms of “we”, the same way as Jet Cash on this thread.

Did the same happen to you?

Or maybe the opposite? I mean, maybe you were once hopeful and excited about the things that could be done by the community and after seeing how it the forum has declined and all the shitposting you became more distant.

What is your personal experience?

Yeah, a few years ago I didn't quite like how the forum handled a few things. Notably scams. I guess I wised up, and actually looked at why they aren't moderated. There were definitely other things that I didn't quite agree on. I've always been for the community, but certainly as I became more experienced here it started to become part of my life. As dumb as that sounds I formed friendships here, and got to meet some real cool people.

The thing is a lot of people have left the forum (some pretty substantial ones) because of the spam problem, and some of the other issues which continue to exist. But, honestly I think that has had the opposite effect on me. I've said before that I liked reporting spammers because I found it oddly therapeutic, and had satisfaction knowing I was helping. I've always reported even a few years ago, but I think I kicked in up a notch in the last year.  I guess that has led to where I am now.

This forum does a weird thing to you. With all of its problems, and all of its ball aches it pulls you in, and keeps you here. You eventually become quite passionate about something that isn't even yours. You become passionate about the community as you become part of the community.

It's funny how that works--but very true.  I sometimes wonder what Meta would look like if the shitposting problem were ever completely solved, or if account sales didn't happen.  Something tells me it'd be a very different forum.

OP, this is an interesting question.  There are a bunch of members here who I listen to very carefully and who've earned my respect.  I think of myself and them as "we", definitely.  Those people are basically on the same side of the fight against scammers and spam.  Everyone else is "them".  On the other hand, we're all part of the crypto community so everyone is kind of in this together, for better or worse.

Yeah, don't get me wrong we've lost a few of the substantial members who were here to discuss about the technaclities of Bitcoin, and other cryptocurrencies, but we've also retained a few members who like to contribute to both the forums through discussion, and helping out with the spammers, and what not.

I think Meta would be a utopia if that were true

A better community is better for yourself.
Less scam, less spam means more visible information.
You have to think long term about all this. Too many people are only here to make their quota of posts for their sig campaigns and in the end don't bring much (or could bring more) to the place.
There are many ways you can help the forum get better and I'm not only talking about fighting scam and spam, you just have to contribute in a good way. By doing so, you'll influence others to do the same and it will benefit everyone... including yourself.

The "I" part becomes a "we" when you're a regular meta poster, or have regular conversations with other members, in different sections. I was thinking as,"I am gonna do this , I am gonna do that" and I still do, but when you need to do something to big enough that might have to change things around, then you start thinking as "we", if that makes any sense.

I fucking know right? I literally ask this everyday to myself, believe it or not: "What the fuck am I doing in this forum?". And I'll be honest, sometimes I feel like "Ah,this shit is fucking boring." So I just go and read some shitposts, and get back to weird normal person who I was. I have even had thoughts on leaving this forum(despite the fact that I am in the highest paying campaign), but just can't do it, you know what I mean?

Bitcointalk is sort of the only forum I have been part of, and yeah this is it.

@OP I thought its only me addicted to the forum. Believe me or not it's not for the money, they are just a side effect.
When I came here had no idea what this place was. Every newbie/almost/ was fearing Lauda that time, and I had to read a little about him to see what was so special about him and then digging around found about QS, then Vod, TMAN, suchmoon, OgNasty and all the drama in the forum. The Pharmacist was not so active, as he was removed from the DTs that time but I read about his reputation... Digging in the history of the forum is amazing.

The only thing I regret is the lack of free time, just to read more...

Thanks to the pre-merit discussion I had the chance to interact with some of those famous forum members.
And it happen somehow now I can say I'm part of the community I found people to talk to, people with similar interests. The forum is more addictive that I expected.

You are describing my situation here. I love reporting way before it was popular just because of the good feeling that you do something to stop those who are trying to cheat. I hate this kind of attitude IRL so here was a way to put those on their right place. You and LoyceV were those who I got more inspiration, full respect.

Seriously though, what amazes me is that even with all this spamming shit going on there are still many many uber-smart users here who stayed over the years or even joined recently and are sharing immense amounts of knowledge. It's an honor to "we" with them.

I've taken short breaks from the forum. Not necessarily because of the forum, but because of other commitments. But, even with my longest extended break I came back, and fitted right in. It didn't take too long to get up to speed with things again, and a lot happened whilst I was gone. We lost a few members here, and there that I quite liked, and some surprising things occurred.

I've never thought about leaving the forum I don't think, but certainly sometimes its best to have small breaks.
