someone putting his name AKA (bitcoin adress) next to the coin!
this is done by the old owner , who traded the coin be for he/she/IT leaves......
and its NOT 'JUST one"  owner who can own a bitcoin no , 100.000.000 people can own 1 bitcoin at the same time!
So 100.000.000 people or machines , can own this bitcoin (part) until they announce the new owner gets announced!
This means that with in 3 days all bitcoin will be dirty!!! , and because they dont move you can NOT replace them with clean ones!
Its like the $ bills with cocaine traces 96% have them , he 4 % newly printed not yet.
BUT $ can be newly printed , bitcoin NEVER leave the blockchain , so can never be replaced!!!!!
Thoose law makers dont understand the system , they are trying to impley a law like "
from now own ALL PRIME NUMBERS should be  divisible by 21 , 5 , 8 ,61 , 11!
Yes you can make a law that demends this, but will the maths change?
Will they apply??? NO , maths dont care!
maths are not intimidated by weapons , or army , or nukes , no maths dont care
So let them MAKE the clean bitcoin software and find out the HARD WAY!
They are just fools , thinking in a old way , failing to see the new!
From a global prespective bitcoin is our way out of this Euro/dollar debacle for us ALL!!!
if we go own like we do now , we do simpley self distruct as human race!

The OP is basically saying that since all coins that people sent and recieve are composed of bits of other coins... so yeah.

when you receive a transaction that transaction may have multiple inputs from thousands of other people who have used the system.

so, your BTC wallet is dirty by a certain %... no matter what, only newly created coins are clean and they progressively get dirtier... separating the tainted
from the clean... will be very amusing.

"Sorry sir we cannot accept .3% of your money so you'll have to come up with the difference in clean currency."

But hay it's Bitcoin, they should do it see what happens, add info to coins to see how they move through the economy.
find all the people who own funny hats that use Bitcoins and figure out their aggregated habits.
Build the ZeroCoin protocol to add privacy or modify the system in a way that give users the privacy they want and only release their
transaction history if they themselves want.

The blockchain is impressive really when you consider the types of information that can be extracted with just a bit of voluntary information.
All this information is freely available, If I wanted to add up all the people that have known BTC addresses tied to their real names and saw how
the coins flowed i could do it privately without anyone knowing, it's just free data.
