So... I finished school in business, and then I realized I picked the wrong career path. So I decided to look focus more on my passion, which is anything computer related. But I realized that I know a lot about computers, but then I dont know crap. It's really weird, like I would know how to reset a motherboard, mess with basic SQL stuff, or create a usb image, but I never knew how to open a port till recently. So in my drive to learn and relearn more IT stuff, I learn about bitcoins. I figure it will help me learn more and it seems pretty exciting.

I decided to try it out, and I hope I can learn a lot from you all!!!

So far I....

Got a wallet through Coincase
Got a miner with GUIminer
And choose the Slush Pool

Am I missing anything so far? Or am I ok?

And right now, I can do about 134m/h, which I think is slow?
I am trying to mess with some settings right now, but I figure it is a nice small start.

Comments, flames, and advice is all welcomed!

It is not really suggested to store your bitcoin on coinbase (or any exchange) as you have no control of the private keys.
I assume you are mining bitcoin with GPU, right? If so, you can get way better outcome mining scrypt coins.

Yea, I want to go for desktop or paper wallet. Ill try to figure that out as I go, since I do not have any coins right now.

And yea, on bitcoin with gpu right now. I will look more into alt coins soon, currently no clue about them so far lol.

And thanks for replying!

Welcome! Smiley

If your using a GPU for mining then I wouldn't mine Bitcoin. Choose a scrypt coin (such as Litecoin) instead. Alternatively you could think about cloud mining or investing in ASIC technology.

Welcome fellow peer!

And don't worry about having gone to school for business. That seems to me to be broadly applicable. I bet it will even help with understanding the bitcoin economy.
