Africa is a large segment of the world economy that could see some challenges in catching up with the rest of the world in being a part of the crypto revolution due to poor internet services infrastructure. This is the fall out from less investment in the development of the sector. Crypto is a much more needed addition to the Africa economy as it has the potential to generate huge wealth and get the younger generation engaged.Africa should a crypto hub.

https://news.bitcoin.com/poor-internet-access-could-slow-down-cryptocurrency-growth-in-africa/

That is right, crypto becomes useless without good internet service infrastructure as in Africa. We all know that Crypto hings a lot to internet connection, it is as the main source to do and access to Crypto. Africa should improve the internet service first to use and implement this crypto, they it can be spread wider while it is already improved.

Unfortunately there will no positive changes in Africa because formally Africa is independent but actually Africa is something like "a colony"  which is controlled by some civilized countries and they do not want Africa to be a civilized, developed country not lose the control on Africa. I would like pay attention that it is just my assumption but not assertion. Well, you assert that there will be the great future in Africa if crypto technologies are used more widely. I am sure that not any crypto technologies are able to change something in the better way it need to change the underlaying system

Where the hell you got this assumption? What's your premise? This is not the 18th centuries anymore. There are a lot of independent African nations now. And a lot of countries are really helping it to grow.

Well, you assert that there will be the great future in Africa if crypto technologies are used more widely. I am sure that not any crypto technologies are able to change something in the better way it need to change the underlaying system
Any nation has the capacity to improved, However, there are a lot of barriers specially in Africa, there are a lot of issues that need to be tackled first, like alleviating the lives of many people there, but I'm sure governments are trying their best. Infrastructure needed to be setup to get the whole crypto thing going for Africa, just saying.

Quite a lot need to be done if Africa is to be a part of the cryptos adoption. Crypto is supposed to bring wealth, it will be sad if Africa miss out on this opportunity die to poor internet services

The problem should not really be poor internet but technically underdevelopment.
Yeah, that's the bigger problem.  I'm no expert in African affairs, and I would imagine all countries are not equal when it comes to technological advances--but I would imagine smartphone use is prevalent at least.  That's really all you need to get involved with crypto.  If you have a signal, you can use bitcoin.

Ironically, that article isn't loading for some reason--I think because of my poor wi-fi connection, and I'm nowhere near Africa.  Anyway, from what I know Africa is catching up to the rest of the world in many aspects, and I suspect their internet use is going to improve and probably their use of bitcoin as well.  I would also say that internet connectivity is probably very low on some of those countries' lists of problems.  Poverty and government corruption kind of need to get remedied, though I wouldn't say this has to happen first--but it's urgent.

It's too bad there's no data on the location of members on bitcointalk.  I'd love to know how many users hail from Africa and other nations.  I would think Africa's representation would be pretty small.

Africa is a poor country, in which there are a lot of problems, as in the economy, in the environment, in education, etc.

No, it is not. And I'm not talking about poor but the fact that Africa is NOT a country.
And from this come a lot of problems with this thread.

For example:

No, it's not Japan, it's Morroco.

And there are some other fun facts, like Gabon having a better GDP per capita that Serbia Thailand or Indonesia.
Again another fun fact is that South Africa has more internet users in % of the entire population than....  China!!!!  Grin

Considering Africa as a whole entity, putting together South Africa and Liberia, Niger and Nigeria and talking about adoption overall is a mistake, just as you can't lump together Moldova and Portugal or Belgium and Belarus.

Some of those countries in Africa can already adopt cryptos, some will probably not be able to do it even by the end of the century. Some have 4 lines highways some have only dirt roads, some have created multi-billion companies some have never used the word billion other than in math classes.

Ive been thinking about it also. Bitcoin as mode of payment doesnt work without wifi or any internet connection thats why internet becomes the hindrance on this kind of transaction. Government should improve not only with crypto facilities and also with their internet connection.

I do agree on that, there are people who are using internet in order to mine cryptocurrency and if the connection is slow then they might get a problem earning a coin they are interested.

Yeah it will really be a cause to hamper crypto adoption in your country. Anyway, does the government done something with this problem? I bet it is not only in you country having this kind of problem and we have here also in the Philippines. However, the Philippine government are doing something to enhance the internet speed connection through opening for a third party player to compete with the monopoly of network service providers.

Corruption has been a major factor militating the growth of infrastructures in African, funds meant for the development of keys sectors like provision of electricity, internet facilities, water, good roads etc are being diverted by some scrupulous politicians, invariably all these had been hampering the growth of Cryptos in Africa. South africa, Nigeria, Kenya and few countries  where Cryptos had made an inroad and had not really made too much impacts.

I agree with you,  corruption has been a major reason why most  Africa countries are still under developed. Most of the resources that should have been for the provision of basic amenities are being diverted by our corruptible politician. And this will directly or indirectly hamper the mass adoption of crypto as people from some part of Africa hardly have enough electricity or internet facilities  to power their phone regularly and connect to the internet.

Africa isn't "a large segment of the world economy",actually it's a relatively small part.I remember that the African GDP was more than 1 trillion USD,which is very little, for a continent populated with 1 billion people.
I think that Africa needs industrialisation first and then crypto adoption. Most of the african countries have 80% uneducated population of peasants, who can do only agricultural work.

This is really a parochial statement reeking of sheer ignorance. The nominal African GDP as at 2017 is standing $3.52 trillion with a growth rate of 3.7%, and 38% of the population are actually uneducated as against a demeaning 80% you cited. African are doing great exploits across the world, even in their home country. While there are farmers, who are needed by the way for food security, there are also a lot of technocrats.

poor internet is a problem of technological infrastructure, the role of government is very important in providing access for the community. technological developments that are so fast, forcing the world government to make this internet access as a secondary and even a primary need of a country.

Maybe Elon Musk will save Africa. He wants to bring high-speed internet to the entire globe using Internet satellites.

https://bigthink.com/philip-perry/internet-access-for-all-how-close-are-we-to-a-global-high-speed-web

"A global system—in addition to getting those in the developing world hooked on the same service—will offer greater speeds, better communication between continents and a much lower latency rate than is currently available. Rural areas, especially in developing countries, have a difficult time getting internet access."

This plan would cut out the problem of needing to build expensive infrastructure around areas which have too few consumers to make such an investment worthwhile."

I am an African and I tell you that it's not only poor Internet service that's going to to cause problems for crypto use in the continent but rather it's the way that Internet usage is expensive that's what's going to worry crypto adoption in Africa. The standard of living is very bad and a few can afford to use their money for internet.

the certificate will be difficult to implement crypto in the African continent. with low human resources it seems difficult. maybe it will slowly be applied there but consequently it will be difficult. different from South Africa which has possible human resources.

You are right despite the over 80% of the world population residing in African the region has witness high rate of underdevelopment and at that social amenities such as electricity and internet connection has been a big challenge to those living within this region and this two things are what cryptocurrency relied upon for it operations.

indeed human resources are main capital to access crypto. of course with high human resources, will have internet needs to support their activities, and I think that internet service will be prioritized

I dont think that with the rise in technological advances it is necessary to have the internet connection all over the world.

There is new tech about which I am reading these days and thats called as Mesh technology where there is only need of internet connection at specific distance and its not necessary to be placed all over the region to successfully execute the actions.

It goes online whenever it gets the internet connection.

Some more advances are also expected above this and could remove internet necessity for sure.

We don't need superfast internet connection to use cryptos normally a 2G speed interned will be enough to use the crypto currencies so it is not a problem for the crypto adoption in Africa but they are not yet ready for crypto adoption because they have lot of life problems in their country so they are surviving each day in tha country so where implementation of new system will take time.
