For Legendary we know already > Amph = 28889 posts but guess what, he got only 1 merit Cheesy

Interesting that for 28889 posts he only earned 1 merit. I was going through his posts and he is definitely no shit-poster. His posts are generally reasonably good but just really short so don't attract merit.

Some people spend most of their time just in the miners' sections. And end up posting more on some of the mega topics related to pools and equipment. And these users end up being unfamiliar with the rest of the forum. They are more interested in altcoins that are mining. Not so much in Bitcoins.

Not writing shitposts is not enough to earn merit. It is necessary to go to the sections where there is abundance in the distribution of the merits, like the Meta section.

I agree with what you are saying. It doesn't apply to that member but it does to many others.

While merit has been great at targeting shit-posters there are a smaller amount of people that are not shit-posters that just don't post to a level where they easily earn merit. I try to look for them because those are not people that the forum wants to lose.
I have had a look at some of the other boards and some of them cause me psychological stress. I just see no point at reading a thread where people express the same opinion over and over again and don't read any of the previous posts. If I hadn't discovered Meta and some of the intelligent life that post here I probably wouldn't be on bitcointalk much.

Mining is great for people that have specific issues but about as interesting as reading a telephone book for those that don't use those miners, algorithms or are experience specific issues. But a brilliant place to look when you have an actual issue  and some super-smart people post there.

We are surrounded by legends on this forum. Phenomenal successes and catastrophic failures. Then there are the scams. This forum is a digital museum.

philipma1957 was recently made a merit source. So the miners should start receiving a little more love.  Smiley

yeah mining and tech sections have (to me) different criteria than other sections. in mining and tech related stuff the emphasis is more on how complete your information is, and how clear the problem/solution is presented. probably pretty useless info to the forum in general, and its quickly ignored.

Guys guys, what's driving you to spend time on making more "merit-status hunting" threads than doing other more productive "jobs"? like answering technical support questions or participating in other non-spam bitcoin-related conversations to improve your own understanding of Bitcoin's usage and technical terms.

Stats? We already got plenty.
Compiling reports is a thing if the spammer/rule-breaker can't be stopped with the report button, but something like this^ can be easily found on online tools like Vod's BPIP.

If you want to bust spammers, investigate and report.
Not this spam, sugar-coated with a sarcastic Cream-of-the-Crop list.

Sorry.

Yeah, but to those in the know it's probably some of the most useful information out there.  I wouldn't merit any of it, because I don't understand the vagaries of it and I don't visit the mining sections--but it would be fantastic if those posters now have someone who can award merits there, if they even care about that sort of thing.  Seems like the people most concerned with ranking up are those doing bounties/campaigns and I don't think they're miners.

I'd say it's pretty pathetic when you have >1000 posts and no merits, but I don't think those mass posters are doing anything but posting in the bounty threads (and there's some evidence of that here).  That's actually a good thing that I don't usually see such members in the sections that I frequent.  Sometimes I do, yes, but usually Meta/Reputation posters have earned some, and even in Economics and Speculation people usually have earned one or two.
