It would seem that many of the deranked newbies, instead of learning a little bit about the forum and trying to make a single good post, have just resorted to frank plagiarism instead. Can't say I'm surprised. I've reported (and mods have banned) 10+ new topics in just the last hour or so, all from newbies with 200+ posts and 0 merit, that were just straight copy-and-paste jobs.

I would encourage everyone to turn on "Show post count" (Profile - Forum Profile Information - Show post count by posts). If you see anything well written by a newbie with lots of posts and zero merit, be suspicious of plagiarism - if they had been writing well for hundreds of posts, chances are they would have been merited by now. More often than not their entire post history is one-line spam and bounty reports until 2 days ago.

Most likely newbs, are ruled by stupidity and not understanding where they got. Although plagiarism, this is a serious offense, they do not understand the essence of the problem. I noticed that many, sometimes make mistakes and get expelled, for similar behavior. Plagiarism is not for our forum! Plagiarism is so bad, and therefore the punishment for it is banishment for ever.

I like to use this site for a quick preliminary check.
https://searchenginereports.net/plagiarism-checker/

For some reason, Google seems to keep dropping it from some of my searches, so I have had to bookmark it.

Thanks for that. I usually take a sentence or two from the post and just drop it in to Google surrounded by quotes, but there have been some posts I'm 99% sure are plagiarized that have given me no results. Just tested your site on the last 4 or 5 reports I made and it picked up every one - I'll use it in the future.

There are a few more detailed sites, and some with submission limits. I intended to list them on a tools page for merit sources, and maybe I'll get round to completing that. At the moment, I'm playing with the new image hosting site for fit to talk, and I've discoverd that I can attach audio files to images. Well I could if I could get it to work. Smiley

Saw a half decent post from a newbie that wasn't plagiarism - or at least, I couldn't detect it. Before I merited, decided to do a quick check of their post history. Their very last post before that one was plagiarism. Sigh. I think I'm on about 20 plagiarism reports just this morning.

Also, sometimes they plagiarize an article or whatever made in their native language and then use Google translator to post the article in English. That' s why sometimes it is difficult to determinate the source, and why I always use some steps:
1.- Check the post history, and, in case you find it suspicious, then
2.- Check the user native language by looking into his/her post history, and then select the text you suspect to be plagiarized and translate it into his/her native language using Google.
3.- Select one or two phrases once translated and make a quick search on Google.

I've found a lot of plagiarists this way, like this one, for example: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3453307.msg45634981#msg45634981

Hope it helps

And thank you for the thread, I will active the post count.

I found a few that had clipped plagiarized text embedded into a new sentence structure.
So search for the portion of the body of a sentence as the bots are getting more sophisticated.
Bots still like to mine from the thread they post in when hitting megathreads though.

I've just given this site a try as you've mentioned it in this topic.
I've checked a lot of posts, but unfortunately, 100% of the texts are 'Unique', and it has not found any plagiarism yet...
I've found one manually, you can check it in the copypaste topic:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1926895.msg45963896#msg45963896

So I've checked it immediately with the site mentioned:

So maybe I'm doing something wrong or the site is not that perfect for plagiarism checks?
Please advice

~snip~

Sometimes people use text spinning tools or homographs. They would also merge/combine small text pieces stolen from different places, which makes finding the original source difficult. I would recommend searching for short sentences with complex word combinations.

There is one more tool called Plagium - https://www.plagium.com/en/plagiarismchecker
It's actually the only plagiarism web-engine i use when i search for scam ICOs. Results are pretty great, compared to seoreviewtools and edubirdie.
There is a limit to the number of free searches but you can easily bypass it by using another browser. Give it a try.

To keep away from the plagiarism bullshit, I have adopted a merit distributing policy - Only merit posts in the boards which are technical, requires a sound knowledge of bitcoin and need to have prior experience of the topic one is posting in. Such boards are Development & Technical Discussion, Project Development and Minning. It's hard to copy paste a reply in these sections. Moreover, I like to have members around the forum who are technically well versed with the entire crypto environment.

all my post and replies not copy-and-paste jobs but i just have only one Merit  Sad i wondering how Bitcointalk determine a post is quality post  Sad
You're not the only one, there are many great quality posters with 0 merits and that is why the system is broken to a certain extent.

To be honest, I'm not surprised that many beginners don't try to write their own unique guide. Absolutely expected. Many of them are driven only by the desire to earn.

No, but your posts are insubstantial and spammy:

no worries, we believe end of the year price will rise  Wink

i dunno forex but i know crypto trade  Grin

Just hodl and wait, no point u sell now right? just be patient

Be honest - if you read something like this written by someone else, would it make you stop and think or want to start a discussion with that person? Posts like this contribute nothing to the conversation. They are just padding your activity account. You will struggle to earn any merit until you learn more and contribute meaningfully to the topic.

Thanks. Seems to be very similar to the one JC posted earlier in this thread, albeit with a higher word limit. I generally use sites like this as a last resort if I can't find it myself in Google - the 4-5 captchas for every search annoys me so much that I just give up.

I support this move to be vigilant. Stealing and passing of ideas or words of another and own it is a serious offense by the one who committed it. There are many members here that unaware about plagiarism and the main reason for this is because one does not do their assignment on reading the rules and regulations provided here in the forum.

Banning of BCT account is the retribution of such acts. Plagiarism is a grave offense and punishable by law so we must think the same way also here in the BCT forum and apply grave punishment.

In this matter I suggest to add a sticky thread notes on every sub forum that will highlight plagiarism so that everybody will be aware on the consequences by doing so.

When you take someone else's work and put in in here verbatim, thats plagiarism
But when you take ideas from different people now that's research
That's for those who plagiarise and call it research

You're not the only one, there are many great quality posters with 0 merits and that is why the system is broken to a certain extent.

The guy has a complete history of utterly useless and none-required one liners which are not even worth reading, Meriting is a very big thing even to think about them. I don't see any fault of the system in that case, though there can be a lot of quality posts that are missed and are not Merited, but in that particular case, it's not the system that is serving injustice, but it is himself who is not honest enough to the forum to get the respect he asks for from it.
