I have updated the main table and chart on the front page. Since I have not updated this thread for two months, I published statistics for July and August at the same time. Ratimov is the leader of this TOP-200 in July 2020. OgNasty gained first place in August 2020.
The list may not be accurate I guess for there are millions of users here and hundred's of thousand newbies created. The list if to inlcude a user that has been supporting a newbie would be relatively high. I do not know how you come up with the list OP but I know that you have a tool on doing it. Maybe it is a vast list for you to make it here so this is why you will be having a hard time to do the list.
Of course, I maintain those lists using a special tool that automatically analyzes all merit transactions. I am interested in such statistics because some newbies may become decent contributors in the future.
Nice, I moved up the ranks to #6... Not sure I can top 10 per month. There's of course a flood of newbies out there but how many actually deserve to rank up? Quite honestly, not as many as people would think. But really, what's 1 merit in the grand scheme of things? Not much to most yet a whole lot to some. In any case, thanks for keeping us updated Coin-1.
As I can see, you took third place on this TOP-200 in July 2020. Great! In my opinion, 1 merit is not much for beginners, but perhaps it is their first step towards a constructive discussion on the forum.
And holy crap! Did I not merit a single Newbie last month? I could have sworn I did, but I trust your data OP. I'm pretty sure I just gave 1 merit to a noob within the last 48 hours, so hopefully my name will at least be on next month's list, even if it isn't high up there. Yes, you gave merits to one "noob" in July and two "noobs" in August, so your name is on the lists published today. Cheers! I'm trying to spread out the merits far and wide, but I'm having a hell of a time finding merit-worthy posts by newer members--and I'm not into charity when it comes to handing out merits. As much as I've thought about lowering my standards when it comes to posts made by lower-ranked members, I just can't bring myself to do it.
I agree with you. There is no need to lower standards. Newbies should put in some effort if they want to earn their first merit.

Monthly update. Since September 17, 2018, donator OgNasty has supported 429 newbies and again took a lead in the main list of this TOP-200. I also posted statistics for September 2020. The monthly number of newbies who received merits is gradually decreasing. 122 members sent at least 1 merit to 272 distinct newcomers. As far as I see, 5 low-ranked senders have already been banned.

@Ognasty had done a great job in this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5275043.0 and has supported few newbies already. Those newbie whi had receiving meris will be having a good start here in the forum and will eventually rank up to jr. member after the attaining the required activities in the forum. Just only 30 activities required for jr. member in rank and 1 merit then they can start wearing signature of their own or if thy want to join in signature bounty. However wearing signature bounty for jr. members will likely could not get a good rewards.

As I see, most newbies have enough activity points before they receive their first merit. OgNasty really supports newbies. In October 2020, he awarded 92 (!) newcomers. In his thread I noticed that OgNasty refrains from sending merits to users who are probably someone's alts.

In his thread I noticed that OgNasty refrains from sending merits to users who are probably someone's alts. Thanks for updating this thread Coin-1. I only just came across this thread, so I had not really given a whole lot of thought to the idea in regards to where I might stand in regards to this practice. Surely, I am not opposed to meriting newbies, yet it seems to me that I have not been going out of my way to do it... Upon coming across a poster who has not received any merits, sometimes it might be difficult to determine whether such poster is posting genuine information or not, and if I feel that there is some kind of insight or the post makes me think in some kind of way, then I believe that I will error on the side of meriting such posts (posters). On the other hand, sometimes I might come across posts from newbies that are on the edge of providing some meaningful information and I might consider that I want to see more than just one post, so I might create a kind of mental checklist that I am going to merit the very next decent post from such newbie.. but then I might not come across any additional posts from such newbie, so I do not end up sending that member any merit based on the first quasi-decent post that I saw or any subsequent posts because of the fact that the member had disappeared off my radar.. or we are not moving in the same circles. I put this thread on my "watch" list, and perhaps, just watching this thread might cause me to pay a little more attention to whether I might be in the practice of meriting newbies enough.. and I might be able to "up my game" in such respect... no guarantees, but at least I will agree to follow this thread and any ideas that are being discussed here on out in regards to such topic.

I'm glad you took my advice to add the date in the signed message, but you should encourage them to use the yymmdd format. The ambiguous format that you give an example of could be used to scam by a clever person (obviously not suggesting you).

Lol, I think you're overthinking the process--but at least you're thinking about it. And I sometimes have trouble giving merits to Jr. Members and especially Newbies or Brand New members, because (and I hate to say this) chances are if they wrote a valuable, coherent post there's a good chance it's plagiarized. Sometimes I'm too lazy to verify that so I just don't give any merits. I don't know if you're a merit source or not, but if you're not then I could understand being so selective about what posts you merit. But if you're a merit source it's much less of a concern, because those sMerits get replenished pretty quickly. I should probably un-ignore Bitcoin Discussion and have a look-see and perhaps find some lower-ranked members writing some hidden gems. You never know.

Lol, I think you're overthinking the process--but at least you're thinking about it. I doubt that I am overthinking the matter, but you can conclude what you like. I was merely explaining what I do, and sure, how I think about it to the extent that I do think about it.. when sending smerits there can be a decent amount of subjectivism within the decision-making but sure, if a member happens to be a merit source, that member might attempt to make greater efforts to employ even greater objectivity than such member would otherwise employ. Members are going to vary both in terms of how they give out merits, whether they think about it and whether they attempt to explain their process.
Well looks like you might be doing something very similar to me in terms of thinking about the matter and even hesitating, even though you may well be weighing different factors in terms of why you might hesitate when you come across what you perceive to be a borderline post from a newbie member. By the way, I might even consider some level of relief when I come across a member who has already b been merited by other members, so in that sense, I might be more willing to send smerits to a member who has already received smerits from other members.. especially from members that I tend to have some trust in their judgement. I don't know if you're a merit source or not, but if you're not then I could understand being so selective about what posts you merit. But if you're a merit source it's much less of a concern, because those sMerits get replenished pretty quickly.
That's true.. the more merits that a member has coming in, the easier it might be to send them without as much consideration. There is a thread that theorizes about which members are merit sources. The bolded members are the ones suspected to be merit sources. Here's the link for anyone who might not know about such thread.I should probably un-ignore Bitcoin Discussion and have a look-see and perhaps find some lower-ranked members writing some hidden gems. You never know.
Sure.. exploring about might not hurt from time to time. Sometimes I have a bit of a problem just keeping up with the threads that I follow.. so sometimes I just don't feel that there is enough hours in the day to explore... but hey I am not against exploring when feasible.

It's a good thing when we can help anyone with merit to move up the ranking especially on their quality post especially beginners. There are quite a number of users who really care about beginners and low rank member and I believe they have done well. It's like telling them that newbies are always welcomed by forum members and treat them well. ~Snip I should probably un-ignore Bitcoin Discussion and have a look-see and perhaps find some lower-ranked members writing some hidden gems. You have been doing well all the time. I have no doubt that the quality of the post is what you are looking for from them. Of course there are some beginners who make mistakes at the beginning just because they want to appear to have quality posts, but are caught in plagiarism. That's very ironic. They must be completely ignored by merit.

I have updated the table and chart on the main page of this thread. Since September 17, 2018, 15188 newbies have received at least one merit. 2115 of them have already been banned, so there are 13073 active profiles. I have also published monthly statistics for December 2020 and January 2021. mole0815 took first position on both lists.
Thanks for the kind words. I've always tried to lead by example here, and given my recent troubles with trolls it feels great to see my efforts acknowledged. It seems like greed and hunger for perceived power on this forum have made many users here turn to harassing the old timers with false accusations and trust abuse, so it's great to be on the opposite side of that coin rewarding newbies and spreading knowledge.
I think you've already made a noticeable impact on the community by teaching newbies how to sign Bitcoin messages. Of course, people should have some skills in cryptography and know more about the blockchain technology invented by Satoshi Nakamoto. I like your style of meriting newcomers.
Glad you're watching my thread. If I understand your point correctly, newbies should consistently and regularly make decent posts and engage in meaningful discussions to receive the first merit as a cumulative reward for high-quality messages. Yes, I agree with you. This looks like a second way to become a Junior.

These are the monthly statistics for December 2020 below. I think this is pretty strong evidence that more source merit should be allocated. PN7 is not a merit source, but is the user who is the user who has given the 17th most merit to newbies, while there are 97 merit sources. I think more merit should be flowing through the ecosystem, which should allow more newbies and low ranking users to rank up.
