not surprised either...

what surprises me is that, why this is all coming out now...

especially after being involved with the highly regarded "bitcoin foundation"

the lack of investigation and knowledge of exchange owners, and "trusted" bitcoin figures history is somewhat troublesome.

Seems like the early bitcoin entrepeneurs are a bunch of nerds with bad habits and no business knowledge.
Being 2-3 years in this community I actually must make the conclusion that more than 50% of the people i came in contact with tried to scam me or gave me the feeling they had the intention to scam or their incompetence could lead to bad decisions.

Integrity of this community is below 0%.  That's how you should approach every deal, even with trusted people.

It's not just Gox, look around you, there's alot more idiots lurking in the shadows, hungry for your coins.  And Gox isn't the first to fail and won't be the last either.

How is it that nobody has uncovered this before?

It's called "bistandard effect" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bystander_effect

If Karpeles does have a history of committing fraud, it doesn't necessarily mean that he did anything wrong legally or morally with Mt. Gox's Bitcoins. Funny, I thought cause & effect was pretty much cut & dry.

This is information that we should've had ages ago. I can't believe he was able to hide this from the public.

If nobody is looking for it...

Just look for Bruce Wagner in this forum, or pirateat40.

https://www.coinlend.org <-- automated lending at various exchanges.
https://www.bitfinex.com <-- Trade BTC for other currencies and vice versa.

Just look for Bruce Wagner in this forum, or pirateat40.

Wagner was primarily uncovered by the SomethingAwful goons IIRC.  He recieved quite a bit of support from Bitcoiners (including some from myself to my shame and horror) during the outing process.  As for pirate@40, I don't think there was much to uncover.  Pretty much everyone (including a lot of the participants) knew it was a Ponzi and were just waiting to seen when it would fold.

We scared the SomethingAwful goons away by making shit-loads of money while they could only sit around and watch and wish they had done the same.  It became progressively harder, and less fun, to try to make the case that Bitcoiners were idiots and they as we made a ton of money while they sat around getting raped by the absurd fees to join in their little club.  Their ignominious retreat left a significant void in the community (except for a few of the smarter ones who jumped on-board for some profits) since they had the motivation to research things and we for the most part did not.

IIRC, the goons made it as far as tracking Krapholes movements between Israel and France, but they didn't uncover the prior fraudulent activities.  I was paying specific attention to it at the time.
