PeerBlock lets you control who your computer "talks to" on the Internet. By selecting appropriate lists of "known bad" computers, you can block communication with advertising or spyware oriented servers, computers monitoring your p2p activities, computers which have been "hacked", even entire countries! They can't get in to your computer, and your computer won't try to send them anything either.

This is a continuation project for PeerGuardian ! We probably don't want block certain lists, such as Educational etc., but this can help to reduce any hacker and scammer activity towards the Bitcoin networks valid nodes and help to protect our wallets


I also started thinking about how Bitcoin 'service' providers might go about verifying new business whilst remaining anonymous. We can use P2P VPN applications to communicate and, for example, verify that a new contact actually has 10,000 Bitcoins to buy/sell by viewing the Bitcoin App. on their desktop !

I'm not sure why anyone would should be blocked in a bitcoin-community. Who desides who's bad and who's not. Bitcoin doesn't allow incoming transactions that will reduce your amount (a negative payment).

Nice to see, that the possibilities of Bitcoins are explored. I have a question, though. Would you like to see P2P VPN communications build-in?

With PeerBlock you would not really be trying to block other Bitcoin users. PeerBlock is just a great application to use with any P2P application in addition to your regular firewall. You just have to make sure you select the appropriate block lists for your P2P activity. Hence why I suggested this application, not so much to try and  block other Bitcoin users, but to block 'know bad' computers, perhaps run by individuals who might have interest in 'trying' to hack / steal a Bitcoin wallet.

For example, if you go to List Manager > Add Lists you could add 'hijacked' from http://www.iblocklist.com/lists.php - this list includes 'know' hackers, bot-nets, scammers and spammers etc. I'm sure you can understand the benefits there. The Anti-P2P lists also block companies and organizations that scan P2P users, blocking these will again help increase a Bitcoin users overall anonymity and PC security, including that of the Bitcoin P2P network.

These lists are compiled by individuals and a community that has a real interest in protecting computer networks and P2P users.

I mentioned not blocking the Educational list, for example, there would be absolutely no point in a Bitcoin user blocking MIT !
