Hello folks and welcome!

I have a masterpiece and a grand hold from 2015.

In this thread you can see them created https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=941287.0

Now I have 1 of these knives from 2015 never opened never tampered with. A true gem in the world of crypto as unique as the Damascus patterns.

Everyday I grow curious as to what this pattern will produce and it tempts me to open. The thought that nobody has ever seen this except the maker intrigues me. Sometimes I wonder if it can stay like this for 20 years or if the new owner will open it on delivery...

This blade is without a doubt the last of its kind. There were 20 knives but I am the only one in the world with an unopened blade from 2015.

It is heavy, strong and powerful.

It is listed for 2 BTC and will sell.

First in best dressed.

Global delivery, US hand delivered next month.

Because Damascus steel is beautiful there is an assumption it is very expensive which is not always the case. The Damascus, brass scales and leather sheath for that knife cost about $100. This is not a custom made knife from a famous maker, more of a kit knife with engraved brass scales that originally sold for about $200 here on the forum.

There are not that many bladesmiths in the world who can command prices higher than $5000 for a full custom fixed blade hunter. Regardless good luck with the sale! Damascus hunting knives are popular for comparables take a look at Arizona Custom Knives. You might consider an auction here. I have been collecting and trading knives for many years and would value it at about $500 max. It is a nice conversation piece but no way is it worth two bitcoin sorry about that.

Pretty sure I own the first one of these knives made, which was featured in a news article and predated the production run of 20 knives.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=941287.msg10340032#msg10340032

In any event, a great piece and rare find in good condition. Good luck with the sale. Mine has definitely seen some wear as it is regularly handled.

This is a pretty common problem in the crypto collection community of trying to value things in BTC over time instead of USD.  You get people asking $14,000 for a $500 knife (I'd value it a bit higher but my opinion is biased).  Always wise to check the original price paid in USD when buying a previously owned item.

@OgNasty glad you are getting some use from your knife. I did not buy one when they were sold because I don't like metal scales and the handle design looked uncomfortable to hold. If I made the knife I would use hardwood for the handle and properly contour the scales flush to the tang so the knife feels good in the hand. Probably just inlay a copper Bitcoin Penny into both sides of the wood handle to make it bitcoin themed.

You are talking it down because you don't own one and never will.

You ignore the fact that this batch was the worlds first bitcoin knives. Custom made in a limited edition so yeah it is famous and the maker will always be known. You act like they are some cheap pressed knock off  Roll Eyes

What makes it even more so special is this is the last unopened blade in the world.

Famous Katanas will sell for well over $300k and many knives with history will match this. This one is in that category and thats why it commands a premium.

Your $500 valuation is dream. If you really trade knives like you claim you do you would have never said $500. If you want to get a cheap knife I suggest Aliexpress.

Although it is a great knife you are a bit delusional about the price (not meant as an insult). $13,000 is a rediculous amount of money for any knife, regardless who made it. I have been collecting knives for years now and I know a thing or two about them.

>You ignore the fact that this batch was the worlds first bitcoin knives. Custom made in a limited edition so yeah it is famous and the maker will always be known.
The maker of these knives isn't even known. Anyone could have bought blank blades on ebay and have the handles etched. Here are 5 damascus steel blank blades for $90: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-of-5-Custom-Made-Damascus-Steel-Blank-Blade-Knife-for-Knife-Making-SM220-/272937425246. The fact that it is a batch of 20 knives makes it less valuable compared to a single knife. Steve Randall (who is an ABS Master Smith) is a world renowned blade smith who makes amazing custom (damascus) knives.CLICK HERE for one of his custom knives that sold for $1,650.

>Famous Katanas will sell for well over $300k and many knives with history will match this. This one is in that category and thats why it commands a premium.
I have no idea where you get this from. Traditionally made Japanese katanas sell for nowhere near that price. Korehira Watan is one of the last traditional sword smiths. He spends ~10 months finishing 1 katana and only makes a few every year. His swords sell for ~$20,000 - $30,000. Katanas that sell for $300,000 are likely to be 14th century swords (or older).

>Your $500 valuation is dream. If you really trade knives like you claim you do you would have never said $500. If you want to get a cheap knife I suggest Aliexpress.
$500 is a fair price for a knife like this (might be a little much even), especially since 20 of these were made (so it's not a 1 of its kind). Sure, damascus patterns are unique but the design of the knife is still identical to the other 19. The quality of the knife looks fine but it comes nowhere near the high quality knives made by master smiths.

Dude you are obviously not a knife collector and know nothing about how collectible knives are valued. Just because something is scarce does not mean it is worth a fortune. This is a kit knife made by someone with adequate skills not a custom knife made by a famous maker. The unknown maker used brass scales because they were easy to engrave but did not even take the time to fit them properly to the tang. I stand by my valuation of $500. If I wanted one I would have bought one when they were first offered for sale but passed because I was not that impressed by the quality and the handle looked uncomfortable.

Someone with $6000 to spend on a custom knife would buy something like this one off custom from Walter Brend which will appreciate over time.
